| I have available Cold Air Induction Kits to suit 91-98 Toyota Soarer. This is a 2 piece fibreglass kit that directs cold air from under the number plate area and forces it into the factory Airbox. Price is $330.00 For further information email steve@maltech.com.au

Steven, looks very nice but...I'd like a much wider chamber to make it worth the cost. The entry point to the filter doesn't look to be any larger than factory. Wouldn't all the air just bottle-neck at the far end? Have you considered making one with a larger snorkel end to suit the B.F.I size hole? Not bagging your work by any means mate, just asking.

steve Mate you have been busy. Sam has a good idea with what he said above, what would be the chances mate?? incorperate it into a BFI. that would help in us guys not having to inclose the front section of the box

Hahahaha. Did you copy that from an SS inductions one by any chance? It looks like a dead ringer for the one they comissioned to make for them.

This isn't New, Maltech have had this for ages, Steve emailed me these pics 12 months ago Although, I don't think it's suitable if you have a FMIC

I'm with Lew. Would be good if you could fit it to a BFI (at least half the airbox size).

I think the main problem was getting it to fit under the headlight which probably restricted the maximum size available, then it was easy to fit it to a standard airbox inlet. Once you start cutting the airbox, everyone will have a different size hole, and it would be a lot harder to make something to a standard. Steve can tell me if I am wrong

There are many disadvantages with fitting a Pod Filter or making a DIY intake like the BFI. Pods don't filter that well, it's hard to keep the heat out and DIY intakes take a long time and most end up looking terrible. I few of us tested a pod filter and a stock airbox and filter on the dyno, the pod sounded super loud and super powerful and the sexy good looks were enough for some but the power at the wheels was the same for both. I have tested the original intake that the SSI is similar to. No intake comes close to generating as much pressure at the filter, delivering cold air to the engine and retaining that neat factory appearance. It is possible to squeeze more flow in at full throttle and high rpm with a different intake system, but for throttle response over a variety of driving conditions this cold air intake is hard to beat. Retaining the stock airbox means there are a choice of large area filters to choose from - high filtration like the OEM Toyota or higher flow like a TRD oiled cotton filter. Only the stock airbox flows smooth air over internal bellmouths to the V8 air flow meter. Pod adapters reduce flow with smaller areas and sharp edges. This cold air intake is a big improvement over the stock intake snorkel. There is a noticeable performance increase and economy improves. If anyone was unsure whether to attack the intake system themselves and try DIY, fit a pod or go this cold air intake kit I would give the nod to the this one. Not everyone can make a BFI look beautiful like Rob Hayden! If you don't want to cut the airbox then this sort of intake is the way to go. I think it's a terrific idea and fitting one to a V8 or TT is a sound move. http://planetsoarer.com/coldintaketest/coldintaketest.html http://planetsoarer.com/Ramair/ram_air.htm http://planetsoarer.com/BFI3/bfi3.htm

I agree, I have one of these fitted to my active, noticed a slight decrease in fuel consumption and slightly better performance, my exhaust is standard still though...But as for fit and quality I can thoroughly recomend it, and I am fussy. I didn't want to butcher my airbox and wanted the car to remain stock looking.

Morgan ya better ask steve about the intercooler bit we were talking about that around 12 mths ago and i think he was going to do some thing about that ...(fitting with intercooler) if not it will help the V8's if it works in with pete's testing he has done. BUT you better ask first.

Peter Nitschke, you are correct, the elbow section is a very neat fit under the headlight so enlarging the the intake point into the airbox would be point less. This is not a direct copy of the SS Inductions kit. I had a SS kit fitted to my car when l bought it, and it didn't fit as well as l would have liked it to, so l modified it to fit the car better. The radiator over flow bottle does not need to be moved with my kit and it fits between the headlight and body without any stress. The front section will not fit with an intercooler at the moment, still working on that, but the elbow section under the headlight will fit, so you would then be sucking cold air from in front of the radiator. And it would be possible to run a short tube into the airflow to increase the amount of air into the airbox.

Daniel, To install the induction kit you will need to remove the drivers side headlight, airbox, the front undertray and the plastic radiator air scoop. All items can be replaced when the kit is fitted. The front bar stays on.

Eldin, I have one on my TT when I bought it. When I updated to a TRD panel filter it made did make a difference, especially to the throttle response. Since you have done your exhaust all ready, and the filter, this seems like an ideal upgrade for you, IMHO.

Hi Eldin, The intake section of the kit mounts to the aluminium bar which runs across the front of the car. It is a little difficult to see but the kit is fitted to this vehicle.

this looks quite shiny and has the thumbs up from the gurus, so I'm definitely intrigued! but does it replace the stock teeny intake mouthpiece kind of thing (that goes under the headlight) or does it supplement? and is there any need to put any wire mesh over the intake end of this, if i want to be extra careful about inhaling dirt? cheers

It completely replaces the intake under the headlight. I have recently fitted one of these to my V8. Even though I still have the stock exhaust, it has made a difference in responsiveness. I haven't been able to determine if there has been a difference in fuel consumption yet as I haven't been able to keep my foot off the go pedal Overall, I'm extremely happy with the kit. Super easy to install even for someone like me who is not overly mechanically minded. |

Richie, This kit does replace the plastic teeny intake piece. The elbow part of the kit fits into the oval opening (front of air box) and sits under the headlight and points towards the middle of the car. The snorkel section then sits into it and mounts under the aluminium bar. It would not hurt to have the mesh in front of the opening of the kit.

After i drove around 140km from his workshop back to my home today, i noticed a bit of fuel economy improved and there is a difference in responsiveness. I'm extremely happy with the kit and thanks Steven |

No Problems Daniel, Glad it was worth the trip. I am making another kit, it should be ready in about 2 weeks. Most of the time the front mount will get in the way of the kit. You would be able to fit the elbow section under the headlight and make up your own piping to direct the air into it.
