Be careful with cheap pumps. You need high pressure so that the water is atomised when it's injected into the intake.

If it forms droplets it will damage the rotors on your blower.

lol I think your a little confused with droplets damaging turbo compressor wheels that spin at 100,000+ RPM vs large lumps of metal spining at <12,000RPM

anyway it atomizes fine so its a total non issue!

Droplets will still damage the rotors, particularly if they're coated.

$10 Bunnings 10L water container + $20 Jaycar float switch > $160 (+ shipping) water inj. kit tank

Took a bit of trial and error to get the position and fixing of the tank, then a bit more trial and error to get the float switch right, but basically now it can via a relay switch a warning led on the dash and turn the pump off and/or switch to a "safe" map when the level in teh tank gets low

I liked the look of the aem kit when i was researching this and then connect the low level to switch the map also

Hi phil, any dyno results of the charger yet.
your engine bay is so tidy and simplified it looks great. I am trying to sought out which COP's to buy, do you know if the 4.3 3uz cops will fit? I have noticed that they bolt on to the side of the plug instead of infront like yours.
were yours hard to fit and wire in?

Havnt had much time to work on this lately, its drivable again but not tuned and still needs various things finished off. Its going to a workshop this weekend to get the fuel system done

There are pros and cons of using either 2AZ or 2/3UZ COPs in a 1UZ, probably easiest to read my thread on toymods -

Fuel system is done, basically now all thats left is a bunch of wiring to do

Following on from my post in Bens thread, here is a pic of the lightened factory bonnet

and some of the weight removed

Weight was 14.5kg, thats nearly 12kg of metal removed!

It has of course lost its rigidity, however we will wait to see what its like when mounted on the car. We wont use this bonnet as the paint is stuffed and there are a few places where the angle grinder went through the skin (there are some tricky spots to remove) so once we're happy with this we'll do another bonnet properly

Wow you really went to town on that bonnet! I was thinking you may have left the outer mouldings so you kept more rigidity, i might just take out the webbing to start with. So i still retain the latch assy. I dont think ill be quick enough at the moment to warrant full weight reduction lol! Im gonna have to do a weight reduction on myself. Im not fat in any way but being solid build im at the tonne lol

No it will use the standard hinges at the back

The problem with keeping the edging is that part is quite thick and double-skinned with extra reinforcing inside it so a lot of the weight is there

Better to remove it and then fibreglass a spar in to retain rigidity if neccessary

Be very interesting to see the results anyway. Could save money instead of purchasing fibreglass replacement.

Ok so i finally got some tuning done on this, we started out with a base tune just on pump 98 fuel and no intercooling or water/meth and we got ~250rwkw. The blower was delivering the goods, we were seeing around 13-14psi boost with a 70mm pulley but obviously with no intercooling timing was putting a limit on power, the tuner did not want to push it.

It certainly has some grunt now, on the dyno it was producing useable boost from 1500rpm, not that I could try it on the way home in pouring rain with r-comps, any throttle action was just instant wheelspin...

Unfortunately due to a late start and Adaptronics not being the quickest of ECUs to tune we ran out of time to set up and tune with the water/meth but I will drive it for now, do some logging and some adjustments to the water/meth to get it in the right ballpark and get a final tune done

Great news Phil, 250rwkw is even enough when it's coming on at 1500rpm backed up with big torque.
Please let us know the next tune with intercooling, maybe 280??

update - Car is at another workshop being tuned with the water/meth, just got a call from them, its now up around 380rwhp (~280rwkw)

May not be the final figure as he has a bit more fine-tuning to do tomorrow but i'll be happy if its in that ballpark :-)

Nah we won't crack the 300rwkw mark with the current setup.
Given its only a 1350kg car 270-280 is fine! We picked up a lot of midrange power, its going to pull like a train now :-)

So after a few events i finally broke this

going from 2nd to 3rd at a khana there was a bang and no drive, couldnt select any gears

Eventually diagnosed the gearbox itself so the clutch and hydraulic release bearing were fine

opened gearbox up...

hmm that doesnt look good. Would explain all the bits of aluminium in the oil....

errr...

layshaft snapped clean off - wtf

never heard of that happening with these boxes?

RX-7 460?cc injectors, drop in fit

Car is still out of action as the rebuild got more serious when we found one of the clutch plates destroyed, engine is out of the car and also decided to tidy up the wiring and redesign the fuel system again, but havnt touched it for months as there's so much work to do motivation is a bit lacking :-(

My black 31 also needs attention as it will be up for sale (got a new car)
