Have a strange issue in that we loose pwr. steer on fast high speed tracks, had the problem at Eastern Creek so I mounted the oil resivor to the top of the pump,it was mounted remotely, we did some short course events and seemed fine, did the Australian Drift GP at QR st the weekend and lost power steer, changed the pump on Sunday and the problem persisted, pulled the wire from the rack switch and that gave me no steer,I even disconnected the speedo to no avail. It's o/k at idle and low speed. Any suggestions?

You havent melted the gauze in the reservoir? Try another reservoir as ive heard constant high revs overheats oil and melts the gauss and causes lack of oil getting to the pump.

Damo had this issue at PI a few years ago.

The return line from the rack to the reservoir is a long squiggly line that runs off in front of the left hand front wheel. It's sort of a oil cooler.

Problem is that this long line is plastic lined on the inside.

When it gets hot, this plastic liner collapses and effectively blocks the fluid flow.

Solution is to remove the plastic liner from the solid power steering lines. Run a steering cooler and try Transmax Z as steering fluid. Being synthetic it's far less susceptible to heat than normal mineral based power steering fluid.

i had a transmission cooler on the front right where the original intercooler sat. when i set up my engine oil cooler and converted to manual i ran the lines to the massive trans cooler i had :-)

As Dan said, it's that ridiculous line running under the engine. It's made of steel and can easily get squashed or kinked maybe during engine conversion, therefore limiting the amount of fluid passing.
I found after to much work under the car that line was bent all over the show. BAD design.

Just got another rack and put that in,bypassed the steel lines and reconnected the oil cooler, another line of thought is that the pump is spinning to fast,I have gotten rid of the air con so the belt is shorter now,if it's still no good this weekend I'm going to put in an Astra electric pump. Thanks for your help.
