One of the reasons that I changed ECU is greater flexibility and control as well as IO count to be able to do cool things like this...

Time to break out some Fusion 360 and the 3D printer again!

I had no luck finding the OEM connector, so I potted the plug and made flying leads.

It's pretty tight, but hopefully just enough room to clear the strut with engine torque.

Dyno tune should be soon!

Looks absolutely awesome.

The 3D printer has totally changed how I think and work. I'd highly recommend one to anyone who likes to tinker.

Due to the proximity of the actuator I decided to change out the engine mounts to the fully enclosed / stiffer ones of the Supra (yet another part stolen from the little brother) and replace the transmission mount which has seen better days.

My plan was to jack the car and lift the engine and unbolt the engine mount brackets to take them out, but this bolt ruined the day and I had to lift the engine to the moon to get this side out.

All scrubbed up and ready for the dyno!!

We spent a long time on the dyno setting up all the cool stuff and there was only one real incident. After hitting boost cut on one pull the engine would no longer idle, but revved fine and was very rich at low RPM.. After checking hoses and lines and scratching heads it was noticed that the adjustable exhaust cam gear had moved all the way to the stops!! It was reset and we continued without incident.

The electronic actuator was flawless and the car ran beautifully and made 350rwkw on 20psi 98ron. There is another 100kw available if I want to go e85, but i'm sure this will be enough for a while.

I thought it would be interesting to try and overlay they old dyno graph from when it was a 1JZ and made 315rwkw and see how it compared.

I tried to line up the axes and best I could and both of these are 20psi.

Awesome figures mate! Good to hear it's all running well too.

On a separate note, is that the original paintwork? Same goes for the headlights, mega clean! She's got the looks to go with that power!

I completely missed your message sorry Michael!

Most of the paint is original, it has had the roof and front bar sprayed at some point, and the headlights were recently restored. Thanks mate :-)

I've been quiet for a bit, but still doing things. The car has slowly been getting better and better as i tweak settings and understand the ecu more.

I have also added a few little things that i've always wanted.

Like cruise control.

And a newer headunit with android auto, and a decent screen for an auxiliary display.

The raspberry pi in the center console outputs composite video to the rear camera input to the headunit, and talks to the ecu via a usb2can interface. Looks pretty cool. I used the factory volume button and an arduino to emulate a keyboard arrow key press to navigate to different tabs. Works very well

I also added some code to the in dash display to show a rolling graph. it's setup for TPS here, but will be used to show the boost curve.

I got sick of jacking the car up and decided to get some quickjacks. Costco had these for $1000 less than the RRP, so i jumped on them. They work very well.

Haltech recently released a new product which I'd wanted too. a CANbus based TPMS system. I did a quick google search and actually found the product they use and re-brand on alibaba and orderd a set! I think the CAN data may be different for the haltech branded ones, but i'll be going straight to my dash, so I don't care. Pretty cool little unit tho.

Nicely done there Tai. You have done a number of things that i had thought seriously about for my UZZ32, but i decided not to. The use of the Raspberry Pi in particular interests me as i see it being able to adapt at any point you want to insert in the factory system, right up to running the whole show in a full emulation.

I like the quick jacks too. Have been beating my brow about whether to get or not. Good tip on the Costco pricing - was that their regular price or a special?

cheers

Hi Michael,

Yes, the Pi is pretty cool. I haven't even used any of the GPIO pins, you could certainly run the full show with a touchscreen and updated graphics.

The costco quickjacks just seem to be that price.... Not sure if it's temporary or not..

The event was a blast, but as you can hear the traction control was having a hard time and the car was under steering pretty bad. But I think both of these problems would be solved with new tires and suspension

I have noticed a weird harmonic oscillation when the car is off and the fuel pump is priming, and there are also small oscillations under light load.

I pulled the return line off the reg and it stops completely.

I'm still not 100% sure why, because another car I'm working on has a much larger pump and the same stock return line and it's fine.

i'm going to PWM the pump and slow it down to match fuel demand, I had planned on doing this anyway as it will make the pump live longer too and keep some heat out of the fuel as well as reducing noise.

The controller is from an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, but i think they're used in a few cars. 20khz output is nice too.
