| Kurt, Only if I bend the rod.. I have been looking and many actuators seem to have 'Z' bend rods, so maybe it's OK..? I think either what you are suggesting Kurt or a making the bracket bend the opposite way and lengthening the rod might just work! Thanks for the input guys

| I think the s bend still has to have the same perpendicular line , finish pointing in the same direction it started . Just the z bend offsets the point of start and finish |

| Yeah if you just bend that plate slightly so it squares up to the rod at the end with the nut so it push's the arm in a straight-ish line. Then just cut and shut that arm up to suit and your away. |

| OK, So I got the new manifold back from Kurt (who has been excellent to deal with) which has less rotation and sits lower than the last one.
I also put a 'Z' bend in the actuator rod, and hopefully the combination of these two things gets me over the line

| Hey who did your manifold? Was it another guy called Kurt or did you say the wrong name? Good work on the actuator! |

| Whoops, I meant to say Kyle Thanks Kurt, I still have a little bit of room to move inwards towards the compressor if it doesn't clear. Pretty confident it will make it. Thanks for the idea! |

| Yeah Tai, would be cool to see yours up and running. I'm still in doubt of going EFR for mine. What ECU will you be running? Jas |

| Tai how is the quality of your turbine housing ports, and exteriors? I did some research and found this thread on another forum which made me jump onto the nearest fence as it seems BW have cut back costs in the last year regarding quality of appearance although they say that the performance of the product is still there. Have a glance over the first few pages of this thread http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1919765-My-Borg-Warner-EFR-7670-Finally-Arrived- Not-Impressed and give us your opinion on what you received through the mail. |

| Yeah, this was all going on while I was trying to get a hold of one ages ago. Basically BW got boned by twice by outsourcing. Once when a company making the turbine wheels didn't follow the recipie and they started to part company with the shaft, and secondly by the investment cast housings (the super smooth ones) having a 50% rejection rate out of the foundry, and then another 50% after tooling. So basically BW had to sort this out. What the bimmer forum shows is the change to the tried and tested sand-cast housings. Not as pretty, but probably stronger. That one was pretty bad, but I think that one was never meant to be sold. As far as I know he got a replacement. You can see my housing in the 1st page of this thread. It's not perfect, but it ain't going to make bugger all difference IMO. The turbines provider was changed and then they became available again. There have been no failures in the USA EFR powered indy cars in the whole season, and Carl Ruiterman has been running a 7670 on his rex putting down over 440awkw for a while now. https://www.facebook.com/FullRaceMotorsports/posts/541788992531915 https://www.facebook.com/4wdDrifters/posts/447593388636910 I'm pretty confident the turbo will be OK.. |

| love how these turbos make boost as well. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for it including shipping? If I go for this or the gtx3076 over highflow twins I would get a TS like you, but with external gate. |

| I got it when the dollar was VERY good. With currency conversion, postage and import duty it was about $1900 The other turbo I was considering was the GTX3576. Yeah, the external gate version is a larger housing and I wanted to keep the bottom end strong. Driftcarl is running the 1.05 AR housing. Add in two gates, then the manifold fittings for the two gates, then the twin entry from the gates to the dump and it all starts to get expensive and complicated. High flow internal gates FTW |

| Ive got a 2jz to the bigger housing shouldnt be a problem. But like you say add in dual gates and the pipe work and it gets exxy! still not enough results with EFR to convince me one way or the other. EVO results are pretty awesome but not enough data regarding 1jz or 2jz |

Like a glove Thanks to Kyle for modifying the manifold for me for free. It's only temp installed, still lots to do! Tossing up between EFI Performance and Cihan for the tune.. Opinions? |

| Thats a bit tight! The externally gated one shouldnt have this issue! Tai what power are you aiming for? |

| Yeah, external gate will be able to use the standard 6boost manifold no problems. Hopefully the engine won't move that far. It looks tighter than it is..
The aim was to achieve 300rwkw with close to, or better than, stock response. I will be running around 20psi. |

| *UPDATE* Well it fought me all the way with little issues that were just plan annoying (like blocking off the rear waterline hard-pipe) but as of yesterday afternoon it's all up and running! I'm not 100% happy with the water line routing, but that's an easy fix. No real driving experience yet, but from the drive home (off boost) it seems to make positive pressure from just below 2000rpm. If loaded up the stockies used to make 5psi @ 2k, so i'll see how it compares when I get the wideband hooked up and make sure i'm safe. Please forgive the PVC pipe intake
I also banged some Hankook semi slicks on the back to try and get some grip.

| I haven't been able to do much through the week due to work and weather, but I managed to tidy up the oil and water lines and connect the wideband. At first I thought I might might have a boost leak, or the gate not working properly and I'm still not 100% sure and probably won't be until I get on a dyno. The turbo does spool early and 2 PSI can be seen under 2,000rpm but it doesn't seem to really come on strong until 3,500-4,000rpm which is a bit sad for me as I was expecting 14 PSI by 3,000. It is still early days and the tune might help it out and there still might be issues to sort. I will book in for a tune and keep the info coming. Tai

| Great stuff Tai. Keen to hear more on driveability, response, etc. Engine bay looking tidy with that turbo really suits the 1jz. Those hankook semi slicks probably couldn't have come at a better time too! |

| As has been said, its looks like a neat job you have done, pity to hear that its not really coming on strong till late .. I would not have thought it was a boost leak as you mention its seeing 2 PSI before 2,000 rpm, certainly could be a waste gate issue though, all the best & keep us informed of how it all goes .. Also curious as to where you got the heat shielding for your accelerator cable from as it looks like it would work well with heat shielding, do you know if its got any nasties in its composition ?? |
