The thing is that compared to a Garrett turbo, the turbine side on the EFRs is pretty big. You really need to wind up the boost to see some results on these things.
Also if you look at the compressor map on the 8374, 20psi is barely halfway up.

Too late to try an external gate Tai?
It would be nice to hold a flat boost line like 20psi across entire rev range..
Might gain another 20 or so rwkws top end.

A 4 inch dump would help bring it on a bit earlier too but its all $$ and pulling it out again to make any changes from here.

At the end of the day it is a 7670 turbo which is pretty large for only 2.5l engine to feed . Regardless of design.

Essentially it is similar to a t04z . Which would give you similar boost response

Thats right Daniel. The titanium wheel is supposed to give you good response but its still pretty darn big!

Hey Ali,

Not much to report on at the moment.

I am waiting on the 7163 that I have on order. It should be here mid March, and I got myself a trust intercooler kit from rhdjapan which is sitting in my room ready for when the turbo arrives.

Perrin has tested both of these turbos and the difference does seem to be about 1000rpm better in response.

I did a mash up of both of the graphs to mark the difference in rpm to 15lb and 25lb..

I will be very happy if the 7163 can achieve this and 300rwkw

Also, the 7163 compressor map seems to be much wider and more suitable for petrol pressure ratios.

This is the plot for a 2.5L engine at 21PSI

Right so you are going smaller then!

I am quite apprehensive about the EFRs at this stage. Still cant find too much information about them on JZs. The match bot suggests that 8374 would be the option for me, but I am leaning towards Precision 6262 as people have had great results with it

Yeah, it's the new one in the smaller frame that uses the mixed flow turbine.

I think the combination of the smaller turbine, smaller compressor and smaller a/r while still being 550/600hp capable will be a great 1J street setup that can run 20lb to red-line everyday.

If the internal gate gives me dramas, there is a V-band non waste-gate housing available for it too

I have heard that the Precision's do well at drags and dyno ie top end power.

If you are going to use a T4 manifold should give the EFR a go.. (possibly try mine out?)

I may even keep it in case I go 1.5J in the future as I think it will be MUCH better suited to the 2J (and there might still be something weird going on with my setup)

Thanks Dan,

Yeah, I think it will be a much better match, and I plan on getting the speed sensor so I can see exactly where I am on the map.

All my reading suggests that the precisions spool better than equivalent Garretts.

My reading on the EFR suggests that they are more suited to small capacity 4 pot engines...

the 7670 would be crazy spool on the 2jzgte, but I wanna have the capability of making 600rwhp on E85

Ali, driftcarl is making 440awkw with his 7670 rex.

Good news is that it looks like I won't have to modify my dump! Well done Borgwarner!

Sebastian, that test was done by a garret dealer .

Honestly , set your goal hp , and pick the turbo that suits . No point putting 800hp of turbo on to make 400rwhp .

Hey James! Good to see you're still alive :-)

Yeah, it's been a pain waiting for Brog Warner to deliver, but hopefully it will be worth it.

30,000 on the death machine is quite an achievement! Still on the original tank of fuel? Haha.

The wifes 323 protege committed suicide a few weeks back and we just picked up a brand new 'rolla accent sport in manual of course (chirps second!)... anyway... off track..

The sales man is a mad Supra fan (has 3) we chatted for ages, and he was kind enough to offer his 2J cams to me which should help it breathe a bit better up top along with the new front mount and smaller snail.

GCG say mid June now, but if it ends up taking much longer i'm going to have to take the hit and go with the GT3076
