| Wakefield Park, a 1.6-second improvement this time out. Did a 1:08.6625 in Qualifying. Heading in the right direction, but would probably have done better without the engine dramas we suffered all weekend. |

| Without going back through your thread, you're still running a pretty much standard motor on a tune aren't you? That would mean the only Soarer that has gone faster had bulk more power as I think it was Damien's turbo V8 (somewhere around the 1:07 mark) |

Yes mate, will only be running with slicks on it now.

Standard motor, yes. A tune? Not really. No more power/torque than the original engine in the original car. Aaron, PM sent with email address. |

In fact, given that it is old and worn out, been in a dust storm, probably less than it had in the factory, open exhaust notwithstanding. So even more impressive time i reckon. cheers michael |

| True, a respectable time all things considered. But I reckon we'll go faster, even without more horsepower. |

| Wakefield: 1:11.4 .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-JWBMuE0S0 See the video description for details. The new cameras handy. I'm not exactly happy with the times but at least I can see where it is I can make improvements (of the driver variety). Finally got my rotors for my brake upgrade the day after this. Frustrating.. |

| That was great to watch. Good video - what type of camera is it? Stay in 3rd for the fish hook - you'll carry enough speed into it and will have enough pull to come out of it and save yourself two gear changes. Once you get the brake upgrade it'll be even easier |

That was actually on my list of things to try for that trackday, along with entering turn 3 in 4th and shifting to 3rd after. Unfortunately, I forgot my list for that first session and it rained for the rest of them. I'm not to confident I'm going to see an improvement with that corner though. I still havent got around to getting my car tuned to suit the bigger turbo, so I get quite a bit of lag. Makes carrying high gears really hard to get right. |

| Mallala 1:18.4 on Toyo R888, internally stock motor (but 300rwkw), and stock driveline. Very much lightened with backyard aero and off the shelf suspension mods (2.5deg camber front and 1deg rear). Car would have gone at least half to three quarters of a second faster with another session or two, but unfortunately something broke in the top of the motor ending my day after two sessions. |

| Wakefield Park 1:08.940 Car now has 300rwkw, full cage, Lightweight body panels, Supra 4 pot brakes (old pads), on old Toyo R888 semis. According to the data the car should have been doing mid 1:07 laps all day, but the driver needs to catch up. |

| 1:08.66 Vs 1:08.94 Its good to see how 2 rather different builds and different setups can be so close. Would love to see all this added into a spreadsheet . |

It is interesting hey Paul. We need to get both cars at the track on the same day and do comparison times (no racing against each other of course, as that would be naughty). And then we should swap cars and see what happens. |

| I've slowly been tinkering with my Soarer and doing a few Lakeside track days. Might be of interest to some seeing how each mod helped. Date: 29/11/2012 Time: 1:05.96 Mods: Stock apart from Tein S-Tech springs, 18" street tyres (Federal and Achillies) Date: 15/05/2013 Time: 1:04.92 (-1.04s) Mods: Tein S-Tech springs cut 20mm lower Date: 29/06/2013 Time: 1:04.37 (-0.55s) Mods: factory Torsen LSD Date: 03/07/2013 Time: 1:03.79 (-0.58s) Mods: HKS SLD Date: 27/11/2013 Time: 1:03.07 (-0.72) Mods: Nitto NT01 245/40x18 semis + BC coilovers (16/10kg) Date: 07/05/2014 Time: 1:01.37 (-1.70!) Mods: 3" exhaust, wedge adjustment That's starting to become a pretty respectable time for a big auto barge with very limited mods. It's 1.5sec slower than my previous 180SX with 200rwkw, cage, and upgraded everything... Soarer is still a bit too taily, so might benefit from a Whiteline front swaybar or wider rear tyres next - currently 245 all round. ----------------------------------------------- Also took it to Mt Cotton Hillclimb just before I did the exhaust: Date: 26/04/2014 Time: 49.24 Mods: Nitto NT01 semis + BC coilovers (16/10kg) another hillclimb this weekend to see how she goes now. Class record (road reg over 2000cc) is 47.87 for reference, set by a stripped out S13 with RB20DET. So 1.37s slower is not bad for the big old soarer! |

| What was the weather like on the Nov day compared to the July and may dates? Curious that semis only netted 7 tenths, and an exhaust got more than double the gains. We need to get all these track cars in one location for some fun one day. |

| I don't really remember the weather, but November would have been low 30s. May mid 20s. Would have helped slightly, but doesn't account for the difference. Agree about the semis - I was not happy at all with 7/10ths when i first put them on. I was expecting alot more! But I think it just didn't have enough power to benefit from all the extra traction with the stock exhaust. The 3" exhaust transformed the car. I'd put a a good chunk of the 1.7sec it got after the exhaust down to the semis. No way it would have gone 1.7sec faster if it was still on normal street tyres. I went back to Mt Cotton the other weekend too, and ran 48.30. Results on this page somewhere: http://mgccq.org.au/raceresults.htm So basically a full second off thanks to the exhaust. It's only 0.43 off the class record for Production Road Registered now. And the split times show I could have gone 0.3sec faster. I'll be back there for the next one in about a month to have another crack at it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2UlZHfuSUc compared to my previous 180SX track car, it's 1.7sec slower at the fast flowing Lakeside track, but only 0.2sec slower at Mt Cotton. I think the auto suits the hillclimb pretty well |

| That is interesting- maybe the gearing also suits the Mt Cotton track better than Lakeside as well? I am not familiar with either track. |

| yep, the auto's gearing works very well in the two slowest corners at Mt Cotton. Manual cars normally struggle a bit in those corners as 1st gear is a bit too short and 2nd a bit too tall. The auto loves it! 2nd gear in the auto feels a bit slow up the hills but you lose less time changing gears than a manual so probably works out pretty even up the hills. At Lakeside the 180SX was faster, but it really should be too. 300kg lighter, more power with upgraded turbo, bigger injectors, ecu, cage, all sorts of adjustable suspension arms, GTR brakes, flared rear guards to fit in wider rubber etc etc. Soarer is basically stock by comparison! But some wider rear tyres, FMIC and shift kit it might get close... |

| Hillclimb yesterday. New PB and class record 47.81 The record was held by an S13 with RB20 conversion, upgraded turbo etc. Soarer's not bad for a car with just coilovers and exhaust. I love this car! The only change from last time was tyre softener. Seems to work! My 2nd run was 0.05sec slower than my best last time, and the 3rd run was my fastest, basically half a second improvment. Will have to wait for the split times they mail out during the week to confirm, but I think I went a bit faster in the 1st sector on later runs but stuffed up in other places trying a bit too hard. So there might be a bit more to come yet. I was going to re-treat the tyres again last night and have another crack today, but found a totally buggered a lower control arm bush when I jacked it up - about an inch of movement there! It was fine that morning when I put the semis on. So I'm missing out on the 2nd day of the competition |

| Dont know if anyone else has done it. But marulan driver training centre on friday got a best of 45.7 and mostly averaged mid 46s as first time out was trying heaps of different lines to see what the car liked. Car is a uzz31 with a centre exhaust back and air filter. Manual r154, Caged with coilovers swaybars and wilwood front brakes. excited cause I can finally post in here haha |
