Agreed, Anything more than 2000rpm or so seems too much for a v8.

hehe yeah my old project car, custom gearbox controller via a 5 speed auto was a little aggressive on the settings hence the tire slips at full throttle

The next phase of my UZZ32 is complete, now running 2004 3UZ EUC and 2004 6 speed a761e box.

So much of an improvement! Shift quality is perfect and performance much improved.

Can now hit 100kph in the heavy UZZ32 in 6 seconds flat. So pleased considering I haven't even done headers yet.

Yesterday I put the Soarer on the dyno to see how it's doing...157rwkw was the result which isn't too bad for a stock 3UZ in a UZZ32. This will give me a baseline until I do headers!

Unfortunately I need to workout a way for the 6 speed to be dyno'd better as while done in 4th the operator had to slowly get it up to speed until going full throttle part way through, otherwise it wanted to kick down a gear.

Comparisons:

Keeping in mind dyno variations make it less than ideal to compare figures, but it still gives some gauge on outputs, likely +/- 5 rwkw.

Stock 1UZ UZZ32s in Australia as noted on PlanetSoarer.com were doing 125rwkw, 126rwkw, 128rwkw on different machines & cars. Fairly closely matched.

These figures are lower than normal non 32 V8 cars, which are usually in the 130-140 rwkw range, these losses are from the active suspension / power steering pump. It's likely a loss of 10-15rwkw.

Making some generalized comparisons here:

Stock 1UZ 32 = ~127rwkw
Stock 3UZ 32 = 157rwkw

This suggest approximately 30rwkw difference

Engine claimed outputs 191kw (256hp) vs 224kw (300hp), roughly 33kw difference at the flywheel which makes sense...

3UZ stock cars around the world were doing figures of 170rwkw-180rwkw, so less 15rwkw of pump losses would suggest outputs of 155rwkw to 165rwkw

Modified 1UZ 32s with headers seemed to get around the 140rwkw which suggests a 10rwkw gain. In theory I could hope to lift the peak power up to 165-170rwkw which would be quite reasonable.

Headers finally done.

Much more response and acceleration throughout the entire rev range. So fantastic.

Sounds cleaner too.

Just put on triclover flanges as I prefer them to bolt type flanges.

Haha yes, same design. I believe these were Tex headers, Rush Headers, now Hurricane, made off the same jig I believe.

Good fit though, surprised how damn easy they were to fit, was just a couple of bolts that were a little awkward to tighten, but certainly one of the easier jobs to do on a V8 Soarer.

Hopefully arranging one later in the year with some BMW pals.

I'd like to try get the snow mode CAN Bus switch working so more throttle can be applied at lower rpm, it kicks down a gear too easily at the moment which is annoying, hence why the previous graph was only really relevant from 3500rpm+

Ahhh, makes sense I guess.

I'm in the process of wiring up a microsquirt trans controller into mine due to the factory ECU being a prick and replacing it with an adaptronic. Unfortunately it's not a very mature product and cant operate that trans just yet. Would have been a neat upgrade for my project

Stock 4 speed ecus are great for their simplicity to control so wont be too hard. Solenoids are typically on or off.

6 speed is totally different and runs 9 solenoids, 4 of which are variable duty cycle for accumulator and line pressures.

A good gearbox controller is the PCS TCM2000, I ran a 5 speed A650e with one twice, but they are a bit of a flawed gearbox with how they opperate 2nd gear so hard to get it working perfecltly smooth around that gear when changing, but worked. Some how I suspect the 6 speed would be easier to control, but maxes out the outputs the PCS unit offers.

Ultimately I wanted precise factory control so going 3UZ was one of my reasons

All going well 18 months since the conversion, done nearly 10,000kms.

Nice upgrade to the 3UZ were headers, more mid range punch.

Next way to look at improving fueling with an piggy back computer, need to talk to a local dyno tuner, see what they suggest.

It's typically rich up top, flattening the peak power, last dyno suggested dropping under 12:1 at 4500rpm down to 11.2:1 to at 5500

Peformance is strong though. Can do:

0-60mph in 5.80sec
0-100mph in 14.80sec

Considerably faster than a stock UZZ32, normally take 8.0s+ for a 0-60mph time!

Could certainly assist with that. I'm sorting out an improved workshop setup at the moment so would allow me to do such a conversion :-)
