Peter Nitschke wrote on Sunday, May 08, 2016 - 02:54 pm:Did it nearly bog getting off the line in the first one?
Yep, it needed more revs. I was trying to use less as my normal start procedure is to light up the rear tyres...
Peter Nitschke wrote on Sunday, May 08, 2016 - 02:54 pm:You can hear the diff getting unhappy about 2/3 through, was it audible for you in the cab?
Yes I could hear it. The car still had drive, so at first I wasn't sure what it was. Worked it out eventually though, with the second bang.
Peter Nitschke wrote on Sunday, May 08, 2016 - 04:34 pm:Easy to see why you slid off in the 2nd one,
Front left tyre was down to the canvas (I think there's photos earlier in the thread). That combined with the welded diff had the thing understeering like a pig. No fun at all. It was worse on that first lap while the tyres were still cool.
Peter Nitschke wrote on Sunday, May 08, 2016 - 04:34 pm:Interesting chase with the yellow car, lose so much in the straights, but then able to get it all back through the twisty bits.
Yeah I enjoyed chasing after him during that race. I think with the new Torsen diff it would have been a different story. |

| And speaking of different stories... The Soarer is sold, thankfully to another SC member who I know will continue to progress the car and will soon have it churning out better lap times. All we have to do is clear Aaron's shed out so I can empty mine into it I'm sure Aaron will also continue with this thread too, keeping everyone updated with where the car is at. |

| Thanks Peter, sad at parting mine but extremely excited to have the opportunity to continue such an epic and inspiring build. I am a little unsure exactly where i am going to go with it and try get into sports sedans category myself or maybe make a couple of adjustments and look at doing wtac as id love to do wtac atleast once in my life, and having this car would mean i wouldnt be embarassed to rock up in a multicolour primered budget build haha |

| Ok so. Yesterday officially took over the build of this beast. Picked it up with some of the spares. Will have to do another trip to get the rest. Haha had to cable tie the doors on for the trip as no usable hinges at the time haha it actually worked well! car arrived safely and hilux done well pulling it up the mountain. So plans for now.... clean up, touch up paint, get it together see how everything is setup in person. Move wing mounts more rearward and putting my end plates on. Will make it easier to get boot on and off. Swapping my steering wheel on. Trialling my 18s on there which are quite wide in the front end so im not sure what ill do there. having a fiddle with the front bumper and get it fitting up schmick again. Get the works of art carbon doors Ben made on. Possibly with stock hinges for now just to get them on and work out custom hinges later out of the parts Andrew gave me. And look at sitting in the stock spare engine just to keep the car moveable to get on and off trailer easier , id love to get it to wtac show and shine. So ill keep all the things i do updated on this thread so can continue to follow it. |

This was the an original design/concept for the Soarer back in 2008 (found on one of the archived pages of this thread). Note the similarity of the wheels to Aaron's ones. He's just following instructions, that's all |

| Haha yeah i may have to swap some parts with my other car so i can run them with good fitment. Havent had a chance to fiddle or even unpack it properly as yet. Mates diffs blew in her jimny so have been rebuilding them. And when i have had spare time its been raining! Used her dads lathe to make a spacer using the original wheels round centre horn ring so i can run the horn pad on my sparco wheel with Andrews quick release... as turns out my sparco quick release one is drilled off centre from front to back... so wheel would be off centre... gahhh silly effort sparco lol So its sorted, will trial fit tomorrow. Also found a bit of 5mm alloy plate i got to practice welding on so ill use that to make new rear wing mounts to the uprights to sit the blade slightly back further. The livery i am still undecided with how i go. See if i can repair the parts at the front and tie it in down the side and steal bens idea with the griffin down the side.. but use the z40 chrome looking one with gold in the wings.. ill add a nasty paint effort i done on my phone on a low quality pic i had to get an idea... Few pics. |

| Hey you should buy my car too and just blend all three, LOL. Griffin and fading stripe actually look pretty good on that existing paint scheme too. |

| Yeah ill have to see if i can keep some of the front section as alot of it is starting to peel off and ill lose the stuff on bumper when i repair the front. So see what way i go from there, can redo vinyls later just want to get it together and back to being mint condition ;p haha |

| Bit of a quick update.. been quiet again. Haha So. I am now the full owner of this race car and Andrew has been paid off in full. Words can't describe how lucky I was to have him allow me to pay it off so it's all been sitting there under wraps not touched so I can try pay it off asap. With the car being paid off and giving ourselves a small pay rise now the business seems to be progressing. I have also purchased a forged bottom end from lew, Weighted and balanced Ross forged pistons .5mm over 8.5:1 compression Weighted and balanced Eagle 327 H beam rods Balanced and nitrided crankshaft ACL race bearings Arp Conrod and main bolts Will be looking at oiling and head work next, I'll be keeping the high compression cams and heads for a later soarer project I think... So will be looking for. New oil pump... or possibly look at a basic dry sump system encorperating the use of the factory pump. Will look at some turbo spec cams and upgraded valve springs. Arp head bolts and cosmetic head gaskets, Turbosmart opr40 Possibly selling my 2x gt35r turbos and just running a single gtx3584rs with 1.01r, less piping, less weight and more room for other components... So will start to get the engine put together as spending bank account allows for any parts |
