Ive recapped my Suspension ECU as a precaution, it's mostly just a few voltage regs, and integrated circuits specific to Toyota/Denso - reliable yes, but pretty buggered if they fail, although I don't see why they would personally.

Experience says heat and vibration kill this kind of stuff, sometimes corrosion on badly sealed stuff. But all can be accounted for. If we can make it work under water, in a race car should be fine.

Some fun facts on this car - you aren't the first person to buy it from interstate and drive it home, and it has a "glorious" motorsport history already.

Very cool Geoff. Were you a previous owner?

I note that the sideswipe damage was already there in 2012 in those videos.

If so I would love to get any history of the car in your ownership.

My son was the owner before Matthew, and was driving in the linked youtube vids - I won the trophies though
He bought it in Geelong, and we drove over to pick it up then drove it back to Adelaide.
The sideswipe damage was done going up Eagle on the Hill sometime before the Motorkhana - I wasn't there but he says that the rear steering did something weird and put him in the armco railing. The front guard was also damaged, along with a small radiator (active suspension one I think) - but these were replaced. The rear steering played up quite a bit, until we fixed a dicky cable under the car.
Most of the parts Matthew had were from a '31 rolling shell that we bought & stripped - mostly for the rear 1/4 panel. My son wanted to get the bodywork fixed and a full respray done, but it was just too expensive in the end, and it would never be worth anywhere near what it would cost. He also considered turning it into a track car, but decided it was too heavy and not enough power - we bought an R33 when he sold the '32, and still have it.
While he owned it, the suspension struts were all rebuilt and the door hinges swapped with refurbed ones, along with a heap of other mechanical work. It was in pretty good mechanical condition when he sold it, and was a really nice car to drive. It was a sad day when it was sold.

Thanks Geoff. Good to know that the struts were rebuilt. Any idea how many kms on the clock when they were done?

Sorry - I don't remember how many kms it had done. I'll ask if he knows when I see him. I found a receipt for a trans service (see below) and it had done 257k kms then - I think the struts were done later that year so maybe 10k kms more. How many kms has it done now?
I seem to remember something about the accumulators being replaced as well - the new (or refurbed) ones had valves fitted.

Other work that I remember / have receipts for:
- New sparkplug leads, plugs, thermostat, dizziecaps & rotors, pcv valve in late 2010 - probably around 265 - 270k kms
- New a/c compressor (bought from USA, had to put the back plate from the original compressor on it from memory)
- I thought he did the timing belt, but then I think I saw Matthew post that he also replaced it - I may be remembering wrong.
- New caps in display
- I think we did something to fix a blinky dash
- Trans was powerflushed and service by MVAutos in Feb 2010 at 257k kms

Ben - you were probably 2011. I'm pretty sure the council canned the event after 2012, when we left black tyre marks all over their netball courts. Not sure what they expected....

Haha sure has!
If you are going to mainly use it for motorkhana and track would it be worth just getting a cheaper colour to paint it in? Or you would possibly have some hook ups to do a decent job? I think soarers have always looked good in a blue, red, black or the gun metal colour

I think Aaron is onto something there. Not gun metal though, but a solid navy battleship grey.

You just need to find someone who works at Garden Island to get a couple of drums for you - it's government paint, so it'll be cheap. Might even have anti radar properties included .

It would go well with the black wheels and other accents you were thinking of and if all else fails it is also a Hyundai colour:

Haha original bodywork ;p
It doesn't look too bad with a bodykit... not sure how it would go with a factory body unless you put a 97+ kit on it. Bit sleeker and looks lower by having sideskirts and rear lip

Jen says the grey looks like primer ready to be painted.

I still think the blue linked above is winning.
