Hi ppl,
lately the soarer developed a problem i think. starts ok all is fine but when i switch engine off and try to restart it wont crank over enough to start.just like a dead battery.
so anyway i changed over to a drycell battery and i have the same problem.this happens every now and then.especially if i use aircon.
anyone experinced this or am i just getting dud battery`s?

Instead of making my own thread thought I'd hijack this one as its very similar to my problem. Driving around as normal, pull into gas station (typical 1JZ) and fill up. Come back to the car try turn it on and it cranks for half a second before doing nothing, then cranking again a second later..
If I jump start - starts fine. If I let it cool - starts fine.
It started on its own after a few tries and then the revs slowly died off and even giving it gas didn't let it stay on, it died slowly and showed above symptoms.

Forgot to mention, a couple times it would crank fine but just wouldn't turn on, had fuel smell so could be ignition related..? I really wouldn't have a clue..

might sound obvious.... dying battery? Other option is that the electronic regulator in the alternator dies after a while and stops working/regulating when it gets too hot. If you're mechanically minded, you can pull the alternator off and replace the regulator part for like $30. I did mine in 2003 or something (sorry don't have part numbers). So what happens is since your alternator isn't regulating properly, your battery dies over time and you need to jump start it.

Tested battery on battery tester - said it was fine. May try sanding all the earths down and then trying. It started up fine four times just before. Intermittant. Main ECU?
Battery stays charged all the way through, even when it cranks every 2 seconds, it will do that for as long as I can be bothered. So that rules out alternator.
Terminals are on tight as, but as said before, will have to sand down earthing points. Is there any diagrams or anything for all the earthing points?
But in saying that, I have a grounding/earthing kit. Could that be causing problems? That there is too many cables stacked up causing poor earth?

Yep. Threw a ECU error on the dash when I floored it, started running like a bag of d***s and backfires more than it should. Anyone selling a 91 JZZ30 soarer ECU? :/ ..

Did u do a diagnostic scan on the car after the warning came on the dash. Your ecu may not even be stuffed I would be getting your one checked out and recapped rather than buying second hand as it will probably be suffering with leaking caps as well. I had to bypass the fuel ecu for a couple of weeks with a paper clip as it was my daily and was waiting on parts ,it's not recommended but can be done if your desperate.

Pulled EFI fuse then did diagnostic report, EFI OK, ECT NG. Waited for a code but nothing came up. Only ㅡㅡ . So, yeah. I'm assuming its 4th solenoid as it only says NG when the OD button is off? Or would that mean third solenoid.

U might want take it for another spin floor it and see if the error appears again then do the diagnostic check the error with the efi would of been cleared before u did the scan .

You think so? The car has a aftermarket terminal kit and the wires are pretty crappy, they're brittle and look like they might not be getting enough contact. The car will work amazing for a week and then all of a sudden start playing up again, then I'll have to wiggle wires and then it'll work again. I dunno. Will have to wiggle wires for the rest of my life.
