Sorry if this has been talked about but i couldnt find it. My brother has a soarer as well and he said when he floors it sometimes the car flashes red Japanese writing at the bottom. Has anyone ever experienced that or what it is? I know that he said when he floors it it has heaps of power, then the power cuts out for a bit then it surges again. That isnt normal either is it?

It is if TRC cuts in, except you should see orange "TRC" in the instrument panel rather than Klingon in the warning display. At least, that is all I have noticed. When TRC might be invoked I am quite likely to be looking at the road at the time, rather than at the instruments. That strategy has worked pretty well for me over the last forty years.

could it be speed cut? I've only hit it a few times, don't think it was red although.

Sounds like factory speed cut from over boosting. If intermittent it's probably happening when the air temp is cool...it's pretty sudden cut-off in power and then you'll regain power - should be obvious if this is the case. Has the boost been wound up?

If not then it could be brake fluid warning (due to the sensor being so sensitive which trips under load due to the fluid levels tipping below the sensor) but you wouldn't experience power loss obviously....sounds more like the fuel cut from over boosting...

The "Klingon" Jap codes are available - do a search and then match the Jap error code you are getting to the list to be sure....

there is no error message when you hit the speed cut in either a TT or a v8, no red dash or anything (don't ask how I know) and I have seen the traction control light up from the passenger's seat, it is a yellow TRC light which flashes.
the RPM limiter also does not trigger red dash or an error message, so I guess that leaves boost cut.

my boost cut always bought up a clingon message, as it would cut the injector pulse and as such you would get a EFI clingon code pop up.

I used to have this problem with my V8 and it was a dodgy overflow bottle sensor, it would only happen when my coolant wasn't basically overflowing.

Might be an idea to get the English conversions out and check what it is exactly.

Just another possibility.

If it's boost/fuel cut it will cough and splutter as well. No error display.

Check the link Jeff Smith posted and print it out and keep in the glovebox.

I used to have this occur and it was brake-fluid level. And I've seen quite a few posts with the same question and error.

Top up your brake fluid, even if it looks full, just overfill it slightly and hopefully you won't see the error again.

Also you can check the fill sensor and maybe give it a clean or tweek the wires.

How many of us have looked at the conversion table and thought you dont need to print that out and keep a copy in the glove box....
I didn't bother and last week I had a warning message pop up while driving. Scared the **** out of me. not knowing if it is serious or not. Do I stop the car or keep driving. Lucky i was 200m from my house so kept driving. turned out to be oil level, at least it was not oil pressure!
So now I will ALWAYS keep the conversion tables in the glove box for any similar occurrence.. Touch wood.

Haha, I had a warning light pop up last night - I was giving it full throttle and it came up very briefly. My coolant is fine, charge, oil and tail lights. Didn't come up again this morning when I went for a drive. Guess i'll just have to wait and see if it comes up again.

Haha, it was late at night and very quiet - not to mention cold. Could really feel it kicking when I put the foot down! The change between gears is the part that slows it down most, if I had a shift kit, there most def would have been chriping

TRC hey. Even though mine is a 31 ltd I don't have traction control, but my torsen does a great job at giving me enough grip.
And just on that subject (sorry to steer of post subject) my 02 statesman has traction and it almost caused an accident once. Turning right onto dual lane road in the wet I gave it a bit and got sideways, (sort of deliberately, I'm sure you all know what i mean) tried to keep the foot in to power out of it but the bitch kicked me off the accelerator and tank slapped me the other way. Almost went right round. Damn Traction control, sort of glad the soarer doesn't have it.

But what could be wrong when CAT light is on, and the car is just got started ?
When I try to floor it, it just wont go, refuses to accelerate and seems to me like hitting fuel cut.
Also few days ago lower part of the digital dash died, so I cant see if there is any of this 'funny writings'.

Car is Soarer TT, bone stock.

Sagib.
