Hey quick question.

I went looking for a 6u8 50v cap for this fix.

And all i could find was one that was bipolar... does this matter? Or do they have to have polarity a certain way?

Jaycar, tandy and dick smith all had the same ones.

Looking to change over my lights after new year when i have free time.

I removed the Jaycar part number as it was wrong see
http://www.soarer.tv/EMV_Repair/Flashertut.jpg

A 'normal' electrolytic will do - not a bi-polar.

Take the print off into the shop and SHOW them the picture of the cap mounted - then they can see it has a line denoting polarity.

I went to Jaycar and Dick Smiths (two main electronics places in NZ) and neither had 50v caps in the correct rating.

I ended up going with a 6.8UF 35V Tantulum cap that cost me 40c I think. Did the fix yesterday and it's pretty good. I hope the 35V is enough to withstand the back emf, time will tell though. I couldn't find 50V caps anywhere.

Changing the cap to increase the pause between flashes also has the affect of reducing the flash length slightly and also altering the hazard flash rate, it's still perfectly acceptable though.

Here is a link I found on ClubLexus.com showing a modded unit in action.

I did something similar to my flasher relay module, I used the one Luke specified in his fix guide.

I actually think I had the same issue too Matt where there were no 50v ones, and went for a 35v cap instead.

Been many months now and still fine.

Has anyone successfully used LEDs in the rear clusters and still got the stock flasher unit to work?

I used a 6u8 100v cap, when i couldn't find the 50v ones. I saw the 35v but didn't want to go lower. Only changed them on the weekend and all good so far.

This may help for people wanting a better idea of running parallel capacitors

Let me know if it needs any revisions

I'm sure I used 50v caps, I've probably got some left over.

any help is very much appreciated!

I take it the 3.3 is the original capacitor? And that you have the same lights with LED's in them yeah? Thanks for the help!

one more question: how did you fix your rear light warning? just using resistors or did you adapt the lamp fail module? cheers!

i cannot remember what i did re the tail lights.

I may have just shorted across the lamp unit as it really isnt required. LEDS have an extremely long life, so take the easy solution.

did you remove the old capacitor and replace with a 6.8? or did you add the 6.8 to the existing one?

I tried both, and they both do the same thing just a little slower with the two in parallel

Funny you mention that Tom as I've stuck to original globes as well haha! trying out some new polar caps today (got nonpolar the first time) and also retaining my lamp out module with a simple resistor mod

okay so now my indicator system is all filament bulbs, i still have the weird timing (short flash, long pause) i plugged the original light loom back in to test and apart from being slower flash rate due to the new capacitor it is perfect timing between on and off. so after all this i believe its a resistance issue, is there some other mod for the flasher relays resistors or something?

only difference between this new indicator system and the last is 2 less 12v 21w bulbs

with the mod, it is normal i think for the flash to be slightly shorter than the pause. To get a 1:1 the timer cct would need further mods. the cct would need to be traced out to work out how do this.

i figured as much, but i believe i have now gotten it to a more than sensible speed and it isn't as annoying as i thought it would be

also.. don't know if this is new to anybody but my lamp fail module was grey not red or orange like people seem to be saying
