I went to Jaycar and Dick Smiths (two main electronics places in NZ) and neither had 50v caps in the correct rating.
I ended up going with a 6.8UF 35V Tantulum cap that cost me 40c I think. Did the fix yesterday and it's pretty good. I hope the 35V is enough to withstand the back emf, time will tell though. I couldn't find 50V caps anywhere.
Changing the cap to increase the pause between flashes also has the affect of reducing the flash length slightly and also altering the hazard flash rate, it's still perfectly acceptable though.
Here is a link I found on ClubLexus.com showing a modded unit in action.

I used a 6u8 100v cap, when i couldn't find the 50v ones. I saw the 35v but didn't want to go lower. Only changed them on the weekend and all good so far.

anyone know if the capacitor mod fixes the flash rate for those altezza brake lights that look like the supra brake lights? there will be led globes in these as well

Funny you mention that Tom as I've stuck to original globes as well haha! trying out some new polar caps today (got nonpolar the first time) and also retaining my lamp out module with a simple resistor mod

okay so now my indicator system is all filament bulbs, i still have the weird timing (short flash, long pause) i plugged the original light loom back in to test and apart from being slower flash rate due to the new capacitor it is perfect timing between on and off. so after all this i believe its a resistance issue, is there some other mod for the flasher relays resistors or something?
only difference between this new indicator system and the last is 2 less 12v 21w bulbs

with the mod, it is normal i think for the flash to be slightly shorter than the pause. To get a 1:1 the timer cct would need further mods. the cct would need to be traced out to work out how do this.
