Hello, my car (uzz30 V8) gets a red japanese error message when started, translated it means efi error, I ran a diagnostic check and come up with EFI NG, I waited for the code to come up and all I got was -- instead of a number, am I doing something wrong. I bridge e1 and te1 with the key off, turn key on then hit scroll after some sort of japanese message on display, I have tried resetting Ecu to get rid of message but problem persists. Does anyone have ideas? help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi Ross, not getting any error codes from the diagnostic check may mean that it is your engine ECU playing up, as was my case. Is your car in limp (home) mode? It will be chewing the fuel, idle may be high, won't rev out and auto trans will only shift manually (stays in top even when moving off from stationary). These are just some of the symptoms, if you could borrow another ECU and swap it, it will clear the EFI NG error and car will run normal. Iv'e had the same thing happen twice in the 8 months I've owned the car. Best of luck. Peter

Thanks Peter, I had the same thoughts, I pulled the ECU out and tried running the diagnostic check again, got the same result, that made me think that confirmed the ECU to be faulty. I then pulled the covers of the ECU and found one of the capacitors had leaked, I replaced the capacitor and checked other components that were near the capacitor that may have affected from the leak, all appeared ok, from what I could tell anyway. I put the ECU back in but its still got the same error so I guess I need another Ecu, anyone got one they want to sell? The car itself seems to run ok, it idles around 700/800 rpm when warm, it doesn't seem to be chewing fuel and will rev out fine, it does seem a little sluggish at low revs but then again its always had this error since I have had it so I not sure on how it should be performing.

Hi Sebastian,
I did source another ecu and that cured "--" display when I installed it. I did still get the efi error but it now revealed a proper error code which was related to a faulty knock sensor.
That meant the car was running with retarded timing hence it was sluggish down low in the rev range, when I eventually installed a good knock sensor the car has been fine.
I have been meaning to do a write up of my experiences with the Soarer but I just haven't done it yet, I will get around to it one day hopefully.
