I noticed that the same seller is selling extension cords for the ballasts so that you can mount them somewhere else but I reckon I'll probably go the double sided tape option as well. I should get mine in the post tomorrow hopefully.
How heavy are the ballasts Ali? Do you reckon the double sided tape is a long-term option or have you got a permanent fix in mind for later? And are you planning to do anything with your driving light bulbs now that they contrast with the low-beams? I think I'll probably change my bulbs for ones that are less yellow when I put my HID's in.

the only problem is mounting the ballast near the battery. there is no damn space. i just used double sided tape to stick it onto the battery
I mounted mine near the high beams using some custom made brackets. I'll take some pictures and upload them tomorrow or something for you.
How long do the HIDs take to get to full brightness Ali? I'm contemplating getting a set of cheapo's as replacements for my high beams. I'm getting tired of the blue tinge that's visible from the Philips Crystal Visions I have.

they take maybe 5 seconds? not very quick for high beams is it.
the ballasts arent very heavy, but they wont last more than 5-6 months with the double sided tape. i secured the drivers side ballast with cable tie so thats good for a while. it was getting late so i didnt really think about mounting it elsewhere. might do it some other day. driving lights as in the parkers? or w/e they are called? i was planning on getting LEDs for them. some people get blue ones, but im gonna stick with white.

After i installed my PROLUMEN 6000K HID kit i rarely used my high beams anyways.
I probably would not bother going some HID high beams hey.
As for mounting. My ballasts came with a bracket , so i bent it on right angle and used one of the bolts from the radiator mount and it sat there perfectly tucked away.
Without a doubt, HIDs were the BEST money i had spent on my Soarer.... LOVED THEM !

I had HID on my fog light and high beams. No joke but i only ever use high beams once a year (and once you have HID high beams, you can't flash anyone). the fog light HID is just an over kill on lighting (therefore i have now removed it). What's more important is to have clean/clear low beam light covers.

5 seconds is a bit too long to be of any use for high beams. My current set of HIDs take a full second to get to full brightness, so I might just invest in another set of those. I just figured at $80 or so, it wouldn't of hurt to look into the option.
I actually use my high beams often as I live about 2 minutes from the M5 (main motorway that heads straight to the airport and the city) so I often find myself high beaming morons who go 70KM in a 110 zone and refuse to move to the left lane
My horn isn't working properly either so I'm finding myself relying on my high beams more and more until I can trace down the issue with my horn.

Shouldn't flash hid's not goof for them
but if 1 second is too long to wait for reasonable brightness pre heat the oven! Turn on the highbeams untill the are at temp then drive as normal with them off and within a reasonable timeframe they are more than bright enough to flash and come on fast.
Also 1 second isn't how long they take to warm up. Thay may be bright as after a few seconds but hid's still take minutes to reach maximum output.

Problem is being where they are at the front of the car they will cool off very quickly at speed. Also turning them on and off constantly won't be great for the balasts or the bulbs regardless. What do modern HID as OE vehicles do for high beams?

Hey Lachie, I have HID's fitted to both low and high beams. I have the 8000K so they are overly blue.
I have driven past MANY cop cars at night without them giving me so much as a second look. Personally i would stick with something like a 6000K to 4500K bulb as you will be left alone by the police.

Just purchased a 35W/6000k eBay kit. One month on and its still kicking heh.
Made a world of difference as compared to the Mtec bulbs I was using before. The white wasnt too overpowering and had a hint of yellow when looking out from the cabin (easy on the eyes).
