Hey everyone, can you confirm my theory the battery is F***ED??

Yesterday car wouldnt start just the usual annoying clicking. So jump started the car no worries, did the usual drive it around for 20 mins let the battery charge up. it worked fine rest of the day, in fact it worked fine all of today driving around stopping at shops and all the rest (about 6 stops so nothing abnormal), but between coming home at 9pm and wanting to buy smokes at servo at 11pm battery died again.

Now after reading the other posts i have searched, no kind of power drain could empty a battary in 2 hours, and i dont think it can be altenator as it seemed to charge up well after the jump start the first time. So my conclusion is a useless battery, does anyone disagree or agree with this conclusion? or if you got better ideas please share.

I am not in a position at the moment to throw cash at the car needlessly so help would be good.

Thanks

Just take it to an auto electrician and get them to test it - most places will do it for free if they think you might buy a battery from them.

Sounds like a re-run of a recent thread, right down to the relative shortage of cash. That one was a flat battery.

Take Matthew's advice.

Hi Guys same story with mine, I have Got the 6 cylinder 94 Non-turbo soarer. I need a new battery. The battery that was in my car was designed for some tiny 4 cylinder car. Any recommendations of what type or Model Battery i should use to replace the dead one with?

I would also recommend getting the stock battery clamps replaced ($5 from repco?) and your alternator tested whilst they are at it. A reconditioned or new one gives a much better experience for all your electrics and can prevent wiping out your battery in the future and leaving you stranded (much harder to deal with in such a situation than just replacing the battery). My car was a 95 and it recently gave up on a highway :/.

Reconditioning alternator : brighter lights, colder aircon, no drop in power when i put all those things on together!

Drew : Something like a 500CCA or more is good for these cars. An Optima yellow top (deep cycle if you tend to kill your batts alot) or red top (starting power) are very good.

I'm beginning to think with the age of these cars its pretty much a thing to be added to the FAQs somewhere to do for all the electrics/ignition:

- check/recon. alternator
- replace battery clamps
- check replace battery
- check/clean all earths
- check/recondition starter motor
- check/replace fuel pump ecu
- check/replace ECU caps
