Has anyone changed the bulbs in their 91 Tail Lights to LED Bulbs. Mine are Tinted and I would like to increase the brightness of the bulbs.
I understand I need a new Flasher Unit or the replacement of a Load Resistor because LED's will flash slower than the normal globes. But I don't know what to buy or how to work out what to buy.

I haven't changed bulbs in my soarer but tried those LED style plug in stop/tail lights in my landcruiser. One of the tail lights was non genuine and hence had a dirty pink tinge, while the original was still nice and new red looking. Anyway when i put the new bulbs (LEDs) in they were not as bright as the original globes, and the light was rather "concentrated" in a single spot rather than reflecting all over the lense. It made the two different lenses look even more obvious too. After a few months I pulled them out and put good old globes back in!
Sorry to rain on your parade but I think you will be rather disappointed with the outcome of the LED globes if you are chasing incresed brightness. From my experience they are LESS bright than standard ones if placed behind a lense designed for standard globes.

Yeah if you still have the orange diffuser go for the white globes. Hope it works for you Trent, but don't waste too much money on the globes until you know it will work. If you like I can try and find my stop tail globes and post them to you for free. I cant see myself using them in the near future so you can keep them. PM me your address if you want to try.

Nah that's ok.... Thanks for the Offer. I bought them off ebay. Its only going to cost me $26 for the whole set of 6 Globes.... I figure that even if I sand them back a bit that it can't hurt to have some brighter globes!!!

Trent I got the whole set of led globes from ebay around the same price as you but got the set of all 12 globes needed. I assume you have got the stock tail lights? I bought 6 amber ones as I am getting aftermarket tail lights, which I have tested and are nice and bright yellow, and the rest in clear led for the rest of the globes like brake, parker, reverse etc. I don't recommend getting red led globes for the red section(brake & parker)of your tail light itself as they will not be bright at all using red leds, seen a few youtube videos on this and it looks crap, better off going clear leds as they are heaps brighter, especially in your case because your lights are tinted.

The red LEDs give a rich light in the red housing, however I can also vouch they are not as bright. I did however sand the tips off the globes and now the light is dispersed widely and looks great. Was it worth the money? Probably not!
The only benefit I really got from the led conversion is the hope they will last longer (as leds are always advertised) than the stock bulbs.
The amber globes in the clear housing however looks P.O.R.N. (I have clear/red aftermarkets like in costas group buy!)

Yeah I ended up buying the Normal Stock Replacement Globes in a 27w Super White Globe for my Indicators (as I only have tinted my indicators, not the brake lights).
I didn't want to go through the hassle of changing the Indicators to LED's and mucking around with the Relays, etc, to get the right flash speed.
Plus I would have had to change all the Globes, otherwise it would have looked odd.
Hopefully the globes I have ordered are much brighter than the normal 21w Globes I have in there now..... So I don't have to sand my tail lights as they look HORN AS!!!!! Picture below.
