Hey Guys

I've been getting this dash error message on random occasions but have been unable to get a picture of it until now. The error usually comes up when the car is in auto drive, except i got it again when i was just going down my driveway at 13km/h and then again at 70. My guess is that it may be the alternator, but am hoping it's not, because if i have to replace it, it will be the cars third.

The main side affect i noticed that kind of paired with this error, is that my alarm systems strength to be able to receive a signal from my key to unlock the car was random. At times the strength would be normal and i could unlock my car from about 5m away, at other times it would be so poor that i have to put the key right above the bonnet to where the alarm system is located then press the button to unlock it. Bear in mind however that this random signal strength doesn't get affected by going for a drive. The car starts fine, so a flat battery doesn't seem highly likely-but i'm no mechanic.

Any ideas what this may be?
Thanks

Coolant level issue.
You may have an Air bubble in your cooling system, a faulty sensor or simply just have low coolant.

throw a bit of Nulon Red coolant in and see if that fixes your problem.

Shaydan here's the link to all the translations of dash warning messages in English

http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/1113/74535.html?1150010852

by looking at the full list it looks to me its trying to tell you your RADIATOR FLUID LEVEL is low mate, so I would check that if I were you asap!

good idea to print the full list and leave it in your glove box for future reference. :-)

Okay thanks Davids!

Any idea though on what the hell is going on with my alarm system. It's only started doing this... since my auto electrician had it.

I better give him a ring tomorrow.

why water? wouldn't it already be diluted enough?

And by water you mean distilled water, correct?

yeah distilled water, though i don't see the issue with topping it up with pre mixed coolant.

Can you just get the Nulon Red coolant from your local Toyota?

I think i might go for the coolant, and at some stage flush the system and refill, seems the more logical approach- i think.

i picked up some Nulon Red from super cheap auto... when i was last there they had both kinds of coolant (pre diluted and full strength).

Ok sweet, i'll have to get onto that.

By the way, the alarm problem was just the key battery. i bought a new one and the problem persisted, but it turned out that the "new" battery was already drained. So i got a proper one and all is well. Touch wood.

Why not use the proper Toyota Long Life coolant?

It's designed for these cars.

What's the difference? Is the Toyota one, as it says, lasts longer? or is there some other significant difference?

Because the coolant in the Peter's tut is green?

As Peter said, the Toyota Long Life coolant is designed for the car, i use Nulon Red as i was not able to get my hands on it (i didn't try very hard), using either is fine, yes the Toyota Long Life would be the better option but i have had no problems with Nulon Red.

True, but that is the old stuff someone else put in and is being dumped in that pic. :-)

Are you taking photos while driving at 70kmh?

For those that care, the first 5 letters say rajieeta, the next 2 eki are for level, and the last 3 are fusoku which means shortage, not sure why they used katakana for the last 2 words though.

Yer wish i payed attention in year nine Japanese class. And yes, i did take the photo haha. You do not believe how many times i have tried to get the damn photo. I was looking at the road though!

And i looked at the coolant level and it is below the "cool level" arrow.

So "rajieeta" = radiator? A phonetic translation of the English word I guess.

Sorry this may sound stupid, but i've seen on some Soarers that the radiator cap is on the actual housing, or whatever it's called. Mine is on a different section higher up on a plastic thing. will this make a difference to the changing and flushing of the coolant? also the cap says "replace cap when changing fluid". do i really need to?

My bad on the lack of usable words. Too tired.
And possibly the fact that i don't know what these parts are called haha

V8's have a bubble tank that has the radiator cap on it. The tutorial was done on a V8.

Replacing the cap occasionally is a good idea, do you have any idea when yours was last changed? If not, then suggest you do it at least this once.

There are a lot of Japanese words that are phonetic approximations of western words, and they use a separate character alphabet for that so it becomes obvious, but when they used it for the second & third word that threw me out, perhaps the dash can only display that kana alphabet? Maybe you've noticed the Japanese terms for power steering and air conditioning, pawa ste & ea kon.
