Hey all,

Got the infamous problem of the airbag warning light on, so I headed over to here to try and fix it:
http://home.vicnet.net.au/~pgscott/dashrepair/dashrepair.htm

Only issue is, there are NO pictures and I have NO idea how to find this "The Diagnostic port can be found inside the cabin in/under the crash padding on the drivers side, in the corner between the dash crash padding and the kick panel. (Well, sort of) It has the connection designations indicated on the lid."

Can anyone help out? :-)

Round thing next to the bonnet catch is what your looking for, just open it up and it will start to make sense.

Well not that I know of.
I presume its the error that happens when the dash is taken out.
How can I test that the airbag is not at fault though?

So just to get the procedure right..

I need to connect wires in the places that those red and blue ones are.
Then I need to connect a wire to ground (unsure on how to do this, but I'll read up).
Then touch the red and the blue to ground (alternating) for the period of time specified in here:
http://home.vicnet.net.au/~pgscott/dashrepair/dashrepair.htm

EditL By ground does it actually mean I need a grounded wire, or simply just hit the cable on the ground I'm standing on. I guess I could just hook up a wire to E1 like it says... haha

Just went home and did what it says.. all turned out well, air bag light blinked and beeped... but its still there :-(

MORE PROBLEMS ARGH!
Ah well, will have to talk to the mechanic doing the inspection about how to fix I guess (it's at the Toyota Dealership anyway).

Chris can you confirm that work was done on the car they may have resulted in the light coming on?

If you can then just try the procedure a few more times as it doesn't always work the first go.

It took me about a dozen goes before I got it right.

No I cannot confirm Michael, I was HOPING that was the case.

When you got the procedure wrong, did it still do the beep and logo flash?

What is the next step for this is drumming doesn't work?

Chris , best way is to set up a 3 way switch , run the two outside wires the way Dave said (Red & Blue ) then the middle wire from switch run it to a good Earth (Ground) and no not what your standing on but on the door hing bolt or anything you know had a good earth . Then toggle from left to right at a good speed to stop in the middle . This has always worked for me . May have to do it a few times just to get the speed right on the switch .This will work if there is nothing wrong with the AB itself.

If its the only thing holding you back from getting the car registered, take out the instrument cluster and take out the globe behind the airbag symbol.
Temporary fix only. Because it will still mean you wont have an airbag in a serious head on crash.
But at least it will get you past inspection and you can fix this later.

I'm still after confirmation though, when you do the procedure incorrectly, does your light still flash and beep?

Mine still beeped but the beeps may have been different to the ones you get when it's done right.

This was some time ago.
