Does anybody know where the JZZ30 earthing points are?

I get random warnings on my dash which come and go randomly. The cat light, battery charge, oil level and rear lights warning all come on together as they please.

Also, it appears the ECU isn't receiving a speed signal as it doesn't come up on the emanage, but the dash displays speed fine.

If anyone can shed some light as to where some of the hidden earthing points are that would be great! :-)

Random dash lights coming on at the same time usually means alternator is beggining to fail, I've never understood though how can the lights just come on with a failing alternator, how are they triggered does anybody know?

I've had 3 cars of different makes do this and it was the alternator.

Hmm, are there any tests I can run on the alternator?

What's interesting about that, is when I ran the GTTL dash, it gave me the alternator failure jap message.

Running this test on an unloaded electrical system will tell you very little as unless the alternator has nearly completely failed it's possible that the battery voltage can still be within spec.

Turn on all the accessories ie heater lights etc when doing this test as the increased amp draw will work the alternator harder. If battery voltage drops during this test then the alternator is not able to keep up and is beginning to fail.

A better test would be to use a clamp meter to check amp output from the alternator as it's actually the amps you are concerned about.

Matt.

im having a few similar issues. i did the tests you said Matt and the Amps going back to the battery are only at 11amps so im guessing my alternator is goneski or the travel from my engine bay to the boot is to far ??

after some further investigation i went through the engine bay and tightened down all the earth leads i could find aswell as added a new one to the motor(for good measure) and everything is now working fine and the battery is charging at 50 amps which is high enough to put some spark back in the battery for later.
