Hi,

Today my soarer jzz31 broke down. About 4 or so dash lights would come on during driving. This has been going on for a few days.

Today for some reason while driving in the day I decided to turn the headlights on and off. After that the power was reduced after take off. I slipped it into neutral down a hill and then it power-downed and I couldn't move the shifter.

I was able to move the shifter using the red button but when trying to start the car no noise would occur, not even that flat battery "click, Click click" noise. The dash lights turn on however, but they are somewhat dimmed.

Also to shift it now I always need to use the red button, there is no other way. I had it towed.

Another thing of interest/clue is that the left rear red light has been not on during night driving for a few months. Both rear brake lights work however.

Does anyone know what this sounds like?

Thanks for any help.

What steps should I get to get the auto elec guy to do. They say "reco alternator will cost you 400". But what is actually wrong and if it is the alternator, what part is broken and why is it broken?

Your own alternator can be reconditioned.

Mine cost £100 in the UK for a new regulator pack.

battery could have just crapped itself and alternator is ok.

if the battery is ~3yrs, replace it.

otherwise get an elcto to check them.
