Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of somehow reversing the polarity ie connecting the battery incorrectly (+ve to neg etc) and if so what happened especially in terms of fixing the resultant problem. It looks like it may have happened to me?

Thanks David it sure helps utilising the forum one question though do you or anyone know where the 120amp fuse for the alternator is that some references are made to in the text?

Hmm best bet is to send Costa a PM as i'm not 100% sure. From what i can tell all the fuses are in both the drivers kick panel and in the engine bay. Some useful links. Link to fuse box location. Change EFI-IG fuse in kick panel and check relays again. http://www.soarerworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23641
I believe the alternator fuse is a 7.5 Amp fuse in the kick panel. Your best bet is to pull every fuse completely out as Costa mentioned they blew at the base of the fuse making it hard to detect.

I believe the ALT fuse comes off with help from a small flat head.
I am pretty sure all fuses clip on. But yes its wise not to really force it but they are suppose to be held in fairly secure (wouldn't want one to pop out while driving)

Well can't find a part number or a place that sells them. Best bet is Toyota which will sell you a new one for under $40 apparently OR if your not in a rush to fix it, Contact Daniel Savage and see if he has a spare one.

Not a problem. Hope all goes well with your car! what you may want to check while your waiting is the actual wiring, Costa mentioned a lot of the ground wires fried. Also i have read that the car should start with a dead ALT fuse as long as the battery is full and should display "alternator not charging battery" on the dash in Japanese. So if its not kicking over there may be other fried components. Lets just hope there isn't.

Dwayne , you may have burnt the ECU ,so you need to have a look, pull carpet back on pass side foot area, disconnect battery then the ecu.open it up try not to touch the board to much (no static so keep touching yourself to earth)

This happened to me as I was always used to using automatic charger. Was so upset because I thought would have to spend time going through fuses and worst case if fuse doesn't blow- ecu damage. I had smoke coming out of the jumper battery 30 seconds after. Was very lucky. Put a charger on car battery and started fine.
