Hi Guys,
I had the Japanese charge warning light (with cat light too) come up on the dash while I was driving. Turns out it was the rectifier in the alternator.
I decided to buy an aftermarket JAS ANJ012 alternator from Bursons as my stock one was looking sorry for its self.
I have just finished fitting it, put the coolant back in and started the engine. Its not charging.
I have checked all of the relevant fuses and all okay. One strange thing is that when I turn the key to on (car not started yet) the dash goes straight to the Japanese charge warning light and flashes and chimes. I know all of the warning lights come on in this state but I have never had the Japanese warning or flashing. Once the car has stated the waring goes away but there is only 11 volts on the battery.
Any advice is appreciated. One other thing, the aftermarket alternator has the new oval plug, my harness has the round plug, Bursons supplied an adaptor plug, could this be wired wrong? Is the alternator faulty? Any other suggestions?
Has anybody else had this warning when the key is in the on position? I noticed Brett Harrison (Bretto) had this same problem in his post “Need V8 alternator” and never got a solution. His was charging though and mine is not.

FIXED
After much messing around I have found the problem, the round to oval adaptor plug had 2 of the wires mixed up and the car was not sensing the alternator, hence the warning before the car was started. I swapped the wires over put it all back together (because I wanted to put an alternator in TWICE today) and now its working as expected.
TIP: If you are replacing your alternator and using a round to oval adaptor, check the wiring on the adaptor before installing.
