I'd like to make the top part of my dash pure white. Does anyone know if this is possible? I did a search for "dash" and, to be honest, I really didn't feel like going through the 189 search pages to find my answer
I have two white CCFL tubes from Jaycar before they were discontinued to use for the bottom part of the dash. My goal is for an entirely white dash. Failing that, it will be blue up top and white at the bottom.

The A/C unit can be pretty bright at night but I usually have the screen on my head unit up so it's not so bad (I have one of those Alpine motorized screen head units).

I am currently redoing my dash, new lights and a clean..... Thought i would share some of my knowledge that i have learnt so far..
The bottom display where your odometer is can be changed to any colour you want. Personally i prefer white. you just have to replace the ccfl with what ever colour you like, BUT there are a group of LEDs also in this section that are red, these turn on when there are errors giving you a read display...Japanese warning codes... I am also installing a shift light in this section so the bottom part of the dash will change red when the shift light is activated. (not sure how this will look yet)
All the warning lights, open door, blinkers, handbrake can also be changed to a certain extent. I say to a certain extent because these are already coloured in your dash and cannot be changed. I have just replaced the old globes with LEDs of the same colour just so they appear much crisper...
Lastly the speedo, rpm, fuel and temp... From factory these were actually white, over time they get dull and change to a greeny colour (yuck).... to bring back the whiteness you must clean the red filter, glass, mirror and display... the display is naturally a geen/cyan colour and the red filter creates white... If you wanted to do a different colour you just have to remove or change the red filter. Just removing the red filter looks ok, only ok...
If you have gone to all this trouble be sure to remove that stupid reversing beeper......
If anyone would be interested in progress etc let me know an i might create a progress thread with details and results

Looks nicer without the filter, if your camera has accurately shown the colours. How did you find the new LEDs in dash, Ken? I've found them to be too bright- when I did my door switches, I rubbed them solidly on concrete, I can't stand too bright interior lights. Mind you, the original green ones were almost invisible I pulled dash out of previous Soarer ('95) just for a clean, made a huge difference. It's a bit harder to do on the '97 with power tilt mechanism in the way, I've never found the energy to pull it out just for a clean and polish.
I've put a dual output temperature gauge in my car, I chose a blue light, but it looks more purple (and the filter over the digits thingies is a pinkish colour). It's around 1/2 DIN size, I think there's enough room for a cigarette/power socket either side, and I may look into some some coloured/smoked plastic to take the brightness out of the temp displays (one sensor is hanging in front of airbox as "ambient" or outside, the other sensor I have no idea where to place for an accurate interior temp!).

Just another update, Below is a picture of my dash at the moment. All globes have been changed to LEDs, the ccfl removed and replaced with red LED strips…all the plastics and glass had been cleaned. The red filter has been replaced, look how bright and clear the dash is now compared to my previous photo.
The final dash colour should be white, just waiting for the parts to come in. The final Plan is the LCD display in the dash should be white, and the red is my shift light… To be honest I like the red, hahaha
Hopefully I will create a tutorial on this soon.
