OK so not sure where to start..my lower control arm snapped, went into a spring shop for repairs. The car was there 4 weeks waiting on parts, a week before the parts arrived the mechanics called and said that my car wont fire?? NEVER had any starting problems before?? I went down to have a look, and found they have snapped my fan shroud, timing belt cover, my radiator moves a few cm back and forward, intake was undone, radiator hosing undone.... I have the car home now, it wont start, cranks n tries just doesn't fire... aparantly it popped and stalled the last time the shop had it started.. they claim it was like one cylinder firing??
Where do i start looking?? I have checked the battery and coils, how do i test the Ignitor? The mechanic shop claim to have checked for spark on all plugs, i will check this myself today! I have run diagnostics all i got was EFT ok ECT NG then an E came up and nothing else no codes??

Thanks Tom will try both today. Is it easier to get to the sensor from under the car? I have had a little bit of a look for the sensor but couldn't see it. It was in the mechanics shop when I looked so it was a very quick look! my first thought was the crank angle sensor as they had removed radiator and all the other parts at the front of the motor. This is my first soarer after being a loyal holden girl! Love the soarer when it runs!!'

That's the part that worries me, he had no reason to pop my bonnet! I have since made a lot of enquiries about him and his shop... And it's not good, he has a history of ripping off good parts.. And breaking cars! There's no part that i can think of that is worth stealing, that will stop my car firing?? Thanks again, I'll post again after work when I can check those two things

Ah, woman driver, she doesn't know anything, lets rip her off. A lady friend of mine got a Magna and her car was idling very rough because it had a split vacuum hose. She took it to one mechanic and was told a lot of crap and it will cost $400.
Lucky she took it to another mechanic for a second quote and all fixed for $45.

Did you get a written quote/scope of the works required when you booked it in?
If not, at common law a verbal agreement will stand, however it does come a little more to your word against his.
Call or have a look through this site as to your rights & the procedure to follow for a refund, or to make him follow through on the scope of works agreed on. http://www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au/ Recourse is usually through small claims court.
- What has he charged you to bodge the car so far & have you paid him? - Did he give you a receipt for the work to date & what does it say on the receipt.
For any kind of work on your car, you should ask for a written quote on the job to be performed as more often than not the work is not as requested. Its also good to keep this kinda stuff in a folder for future sale of the car.
Often with dodgy blokes like this its better to just walk away....who knows what could happen in the future if he's been this bad so far.
Dept of Fair Trading are pretty good on cases like this though....at least in NSW, although I would imagine they would be the same kind of gig in Qld.

Mark, No I didnt get a quote, they were only meant to replace the lower control arm. I have spoken to Fair Trading, got the legal side covered if i need to use it. It probably easier for me to fix whatever they have broken then stuff around in courts!!
Vincent, Yes i have had quite a few try to rip me off...being female an all!
Bridged the Fp and B+ - Still wont fire. I did discover what i believe has happened the idiots jacked my car from under the radiator, forcing everything up into the bonnet! Bent transmission hoses around the harmonic balancer , broke fan shroud, bent the radiator mounts, ect ect Havent got to the crank angle sensor yet, had sick kids all weekend

With Fair Trading you don't have to go to court. It is a very informal affair. Ring them and sk them about exact the procedure. You will find it is not as daunting as it sounds.
