hey guys, I got a bit of an ongoing problem with my Soarer (93 1JZ TT Auto) that i could really use some help or advice with. As I am not very mechanically minded I'll just write what has happened since it started to have problems and hope you understand.

OK a few months back i got a flat battery so i got jump start so i could get home, then a few days later I started to get some errors come up on the dash when ever i used the overdrive button.

So i stopped using it and planned to get it looked at. But the next day the car started having problems changing gear. It would be OK from starting up but after driving for a bit as soon as you come to a stop or slowed down to a speed where the car should kick down to second or first it wouldn't and would just stay in 3rd or 4th, but I could changes gears manually OK.

Now I have taken the car to 3 local mechanics who said they could fix it or at least tell me whats wrong with it but none of them have been able to tell me anything except see an auto electrician.

So I started ringing around and finally found someone who said the had appropriate tools to hook up to my car to get error read outs. So once i went to see him he hooked it up and got some error codes out. I can't remember the codes but they were to do with 02 sensors and transmission and a few others. But he said it wasn't right because there were errors for the 3 transmission solenoids which he said it wasn't possible to have all 3 go at once.

So he cleared the error codes which took quite a few attempts and once they cleared he started the car to try get some data to do with the errors. Once his equipment started to get data it would say connection lost. He tried quite a few different connections he had there but always the same it would loose connection as soon as the data popped up on the screen.

He has suggested to me it could be the main ECU that is faulty and should replace it and then try again. So that is where I am at, trying to track down an ECU which is proving to be quite tough. So If anyone can makes sense of my ramblings here and have any suggestions whether it is my ECU or something else and if it is my ecu and where i might find one to replace it. I have tried all import wreckers i can find in QLD and no one had any. I also tried a few performance and import mechanics / importers and was quoted $2345 for one.

The jumper leads were around the right way and as for the ignition i don't think it was on but can't be sure as it was my father in law getting it started for me.

OK maybe the ECU is not the problem ,if you go to diagnostics under topics you can run your own code check , also if you put an add in wanted i am sure someone here has a ecu for sale.

Hey Trev
Have a read all about it here
http://www.soarerworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28928
This Tute spells it out, is easy to understand and has pictures.
This stuff is not that hard if you take your time and follow instructions.
You'll retrieve all the info for yourself then pop results up here and someone may have a better idea than your mechanic.
These cars have a lot of smarts in them and only so many places have the experience with these imports. Either way you may have a hell of a lot easier time finding an ECU for yours than I did for my 96' if you do need a new one.
I ended up sending mine to a good company in the states and got it rebuilt for $330. Might have only fixed some damaged tracks but they have the equipment to test the ECU properly and warrenty the work.
Tick away at it, you'll get a answer.

I take it Jack that you got your unit fully fixed.

What was the name of the place that did the repair?

www.autoecu.com
Got back to every email almost right away, cost did not blow out and sent it back earlier than they quoted.
You gotta love the good ol' USA for service.
(or maybe I just got lucky) but I got a good feeling from their emails from the start.

Hey jack, thanks for for the post mate, really helpful link. I manage to score myself an ECU off the forums here and installed it and all seems to be fixed now. So fingers crossed that was all that was wrong. So I'm one stoked Soarer owner at the moment.
