hey everyone,

i have these lights on my dash board, and my powersteering has gone completely.

do i need a new alternator?

and what is the catalytic converter?

when i turned the car on yesterday it made an almighty screeching noise, then stopped.
it did it again this morning.

cheers
chris

your power steering pump has leaked oil onto the alternator.

You need to put a "kit" into the pump, and clean all the oil off the alternator. the oil attacks the insulation on the windings and stuffs the alternator.

hi tom.

i was not driving it when it happened, so we opened the bonnet, and the fan belt was snapped in half.

so when we get the new belt on, we will know if this is all it was.

and hopefully that is all it is.

hi chris

thats an easy fix. check the PS fluid level and also for leaks onto the alternator every now and again. A leaking PS pump will stuff the alternator(and give the identical symptoms you had)
