Hey guys

I decided to service my uzz32 , changed the platinum spark plugs to ngk iridium,

took off throttle body and gave it a clean, changed valve cover gaskets and spark plug tubes gaskets,

cleaned the volume air flow meter (vaf), pulled idle control valve and cleaned it,

put all back and started car, at first it would crank but not start,

after persisting it started, but idle is bad, rpm dropping like car is choking and car vibrating and Stuttering,

unplugging each coil pack one at a time car won't start, (only starts if both are plugged),

measured coil packs with a multimeter, secondary readings are within range 12.96 k & 13.? k for other

primary readings is 01.4 to 01.6 when I am on 200 ohm dial ( digitech qm-1500 multimeter), not sure what that mean , is that like 1.4 ohms( electrical guys). which is out of specs
(0.36-0.55)

finally, any kind person from Adelaide willing to lend me a good working spare coil pack , better if 2 so I can rule the coil packs before I buy new ones, I can come and pick you with another car, and you can come supervise the test.
mob : 0412409049

if car runs o.k. then, I buy new coil packs, if not , then explore other things such as plugs, igniters, etc...

thanks guys

More than likely will be coil packs, could be just one, any good parts supplier can get aftermaket coil packs, various Toyota models use the same coil pack.

I bought some Aip ones of Ebay, 2.5 months later (3,500kms) they have already died!

Then again it was Chinese junk costing $40 each... I usually avoid such parts but in the situation I just went for them.

Currently ordered some proper Denso OEM ones so I've learnt my lesson there.

I checked the connector to the top coil pack (drivers side) and there is no voltage or current , where does that connector gets its current , from the battery or the ignition module ( ignitor)

could it be one ignitor dead.
could it be a blown fuse ( why one side only, other bottom coil getting current), is it a loom or fried wire somewhere, how can I test for this,

anyone.

oki, with the car running, disconnect the primary to the coils one at a time.

You should find it will stall when you remove 1, but run rough when you remove the other one.

you can swap the plugs on the ignitors and repeat the exercise and see if the results reverse.

do a search on V8 coils and you will find threads listing all the alternatives.

Thanks, Paul, Mike and Tom

Tom, in my first post,

unplugging each coil pack one at a time car won't start, (only starts if both are plugged).

I think first of all, I need to get back power in that coil plug connector, as there is no point testing anything without power reaching the loom on that connector,

I will try to check fuses, any one knows if a fuse affect the power going to the driver coil and if so which one ( engine, kick panel) anyway,

I got a coil plastic connector from toyota for $12 Part NO.: 90980-11246 instead of the one I cracked in frustration to see how the wire connect. will put back and get another coil pack and connect both, I need the coil pack as I fried cracked the drivers top one when against my common sense I decided to connect the coil to the battery direct and either they short touch each other without the connector or the loom provide current regulated and on / off through the ignitor which is why after cranking the engine 3 times briefly, the ignitor was boiling and cracked underneath, that was stupid to do.

but I get tired of my car grounded and was hoping the car spring to life and it would be a matter of power not going to the loom for some reason.

I cleaned it by spraying Motortech contact & circuit board cleaner , then I went and bought CRC Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner $25 from supercheapauto,

any way mass flow is out of the equation, as the whole air box is taken off and i can see the throttle plate,

when you disconnect the coil, you take both connectors or one is enough.

I received a coil pack replacement today and put it instead of the one I cracked, I also put a new connector to the coil from the loom,

I believe I had a short in that loom connector wire, I am only getting 0.1 mv voltage as compared to 12 volts on passenger side coil connector.

I am thinking I shorted some wire near the cigarette lighter as I was trying to get the night light of the cigarette lighter to work and hooked it to the next wire which actually operate the cigarette lighter, and smoke came out from near the dash, but car kept working normal for weeks until I did the latest work on it,

will open near cigarette lighter and have a look, hopefully will spot some burned wire which is affecting the coil connector,

Anyone knows a skilled honest electrician who know Soarers well ( prefer mobile one, as it saves me the risk of driving the car and damaging the cats , or towing the car)?, Adelaide people anyone you recommend?
