No, I'm not kidding. My mechanic has all but given up and I don't want to pay for guesswork anymore so I'm looking for suggestions. In the morning my car will fire straight off no problems. After being parked outside all day it won't start in the afternoon. When the key is turned the car will fire once then stop. If the key is switched fast from off to on the car only cranks and will not even fire once. I think it maybe gets fuel for one fire if I pause between off and start. At the mechanics the code 14 came up and the injector pulse failed? There don't seem to be any mechanics/auto elecs here who know what do with it...even with the diagnostic tool. Information about to what to check next would be great thanks New battery, new crank angle sensor, new coilpack clips, alternator charging ok. As the car dies from the one fire the alternator not charging error flashes up for half a second

Vapour lock? Air trapped in your fuel line? Expands when it is warm and blocks the fuel? Check your fuel pump and fuel filter see if it is working normally. Should have enough pressure to force the bubble away.

I don't understand why the fuel pump would be an issue in the afternoon but I'm willing to give it a try. I searched for fuel pump bypass instructions and got about 7 million posts. Can you describe the method please
update
This morning when I went back to the car it started it fired first go. I had tried another computer in it last night and no go, the same computer this morning and no probs. This computer was changed out due to the car not being able to rev past 2000 and this is what happened once I got it warmed up. Its really difficult to drive like that so I parked and switched to the 'refurbed' computer I had installed early last year and the car wouldn't start. By this time the temp gauge had moved off the minimum by one square. After a three or four 'off and ons' the car started and ran fine.
To me this narrows the problem down to any time there is heat in the engine, even ambient, over 30 degrees or so, like sitting outside on a hot day. Even so it is only intermitent but becoming more frequent ... up to 80% no start when warm. It seems to start 100% when dead cold.

does the car crank over but not fire??? to check the fuel ecu, go to the diagnostic port in the engine bay and put a paperclip in the sockets B+ and FP (IE: short cct B+ to FP)

Tom, re cranking: Depending on how the key is turned from off to start. A fast turn and the car keeps cranking without firing
A turn with a pause and the car will fire once then stop the fast/slow process can be repeated in any order with the same result each time except on the rare occasion that it might continue running (like this morning, this is becoming very rare)
Fuel ecu Once the paperclip is in and the car is running is the clip removed or left in. Is it a diagnostic process or an override pending repairs?

open the bonnet, on the right hand side of the intake manifold you should see a small rectangle box with a lid and a heap of wires out the bottom. open it and look inside the lid get a paper clip and bend it into a u shape and plug it into the b+ and fp holes. now try and start the car.

Surprisingly the car wouldn't start again this arvo. I tried both computers but no joy. I tried the fuel bypass and it made no difference either. I was just about to give up when I thought I may as well try disconnecting the EMB. The car wouldn't fire at all with the EMB disconnected but started first go when I plugged it back in. Now I have to see how long this 'fix' works. It will suck if i have to try and find another EMB. I really thought the car wold run without it though.

Three days of no problems now. It seems the problem was a loose connection around the EMB wiring or plug which only showed up when there was some temperature in the engine. Weird or what?
Since this I have also been able to get the connection with the new laptop to the EMB working. Probably not related but I spent some time on it. Had to manually change the allocated port for the connection. Going to try 16 psi on the stockies for awhile with a tune grant rowan posted.
Unlike a lot of problem threads this one has an ending..Thanks to everyone who posted, just getting opinion is helpful sometimes
