Chasing a possible bad earth methinks.
Instrument panels dont light up. Tested against a working panel. Multimetered all the kick panel fuses and engine bay fuses.
However the 'door ajar' 'clock' and 'battery' warning lights illuminate. So I can only assume its something to do with 12v touching the chassis somewhere.
An aftermarket oil pressure meter was recently installed. Worked totally fine for a week along with the dash.
I notice now though, that even with the key turned to 'accessories' the gauge reads 25 p.s.i while the engine is of course, off. It then reads max (100p.s.i) whilst the engine is running.

Hi Aaron. But by this sites assessment you are a Goo Roo. So you should be able to fix your problem. How does one become a Goo Roo, buy being an experienced Electrical/Mechanical technician, or by some other criteria. As a “New Bee” I am rated as a Tinkerer, but as a 62 yo I have been “Tinkering” with Elec/Mech things all my life. No time here to tell you what I "fixed" this week. ( bad Virus in my DT Computer and a Blown Immobiliser and Relay/Transition ECU in my car. Very many people have said I could make big money out of my 62 years gained wisdom, but I am happy being a Tinkerer!!!!..... Now I think you have nailed it, oil pressure gauge, first thing, return all the wiring to as before and see what happens. These cars are very sophisticated and have a LOT of ECU boxes, with delicate electronics in them. Re above, I replaced a 0.8 Ohm 2 watt resistor and a power mosfet in the above. It is dangerous if you are not sure 500% what you are doing. And don't assume Anything. And this "bad earth thing", mostly forwarded by people with no idea.... And its best if you don't play with things. All the Best. Wayne. a49kid......

Oh thankyou for your kind words of wisdom, Sir.
You know, the guy I bought this car off lived near Boronia.
Now, removing the gauge, and the associated wiring, after checking it for voltage and continuity, was the first thing I did.
See, my problem is, I had a qualified mechanic do some work on my car, which involved fitting an oil pressure gauge, and replacing the engine lubricants and filter, before tuning it to suit a new fuel system that I had fabricated. I mean played with. Yes, even though I am a site designated Goo Roo, as you say, I actually don't have a dynamometer in my garage. That, and I can afford to pay someone else to do the niggly bits these days. Even at my tender age.
You're right about playing with things. I just shouldn't. I got the car back and now it makes three times the factory horsepower and leaves black tyre marks between each set of traffic lights. Thats hardly sporting.
Regarding assumption, the term 'bad earth' these days, is often used in place of 'short circuit'. Just another curiosity of the modern era that you will come across more often as you venture out of the nursing home, and into the 'net. ('net is a flash new fangled term for World Wide Web, not a fishing accessory, by the way).

Just to clear it up Wayne, the user rating is based on the number of posts - I think once you get to 1000 you are a Guru, even if its a thousand posts of "1000 bottles of beer on the wall..."

Aaron. When sending you a PM I noticed your Personal Quote in your Profile. And as a NT guy, I thought you might like a shot of my car. And SMD is an acronym for Surface Mount Device. And you’re 4 years younger than my son. Did you see MY Quote.

Wierd, you're four years younger than my Dad. I dig the plates. I struggle to make through-hole repairs look neat. And the surrounds are rather popular up here!
PS. Goo Roo is really a jar of macropod marmalade.
