I'm having some trouble finding the OBD2 plug in my vvti soarer, I was wondering if anyone could post up a photo of it? I've taken a few photos of my footwell, where I'm pretty sure it should be, but can't see anything that looks like it (only the round diagnostics port)

It looks like I'm missing this panel

If you have OBD2, Which I'm not sure came out with the VVTi 1J but a little later, then it should be under the dash, straight forward (towards the front of the car) and up from where the original round OBD plug is, Not over in the side fuse/relay panel area.

Maybe Peter or 'someone else' could make a list of the Very Many Soarer related Acronyms used on this forum. And I'm sure it's not just me who hasn't got a clue what people are talking about.

OBD (on board diagnostics) started in the late 80s and got fitted into most cars by 92 this was OBD1 round plug ,later in 96 the standard was changed to OBD2 straight plug. some car makers fitted the old system much later than 96.

Ah damn, what I'd read seemed to be that when they switched to vvti they also switched to obd2. Do you have any idea when they switched? Judging by the compliance plate the car might from november 97.

I was looking in the side area because that's where the circular plug was.

I've pulled off the panel under the steering wheel to get a better view, but there's still no sign of it

Dont think JP Soarer ever had OBD2 , USA SC did! I have a late 97 Soarer round plug OBD1.
You can still run diagnostics with out a scanner.

We have 2 jzz31's in our family.
Both VVTI.
Both have OBD2.

1 is a Sept 97 the other Jan 98.

Our local Toyota dealer tried and failed to use their diagnotic reader on the 1998 however Rick at West Ryde Mechanical Repairs has successfully used an aftermarket scanner on both cars with excellent results.
cheers

Steve, any chance of a photo of one of the OBD2 plugs and where it sits in the dash?
