My trans did this when my 02 sensor wiring was faulty, sending weird signals to the computer. Strange, i know... related perhaps?

unplug the 02 sensor and then take it for a drive. It's a grey plug between the front turbo and the alternator.
The 02 sensor is located where the two turbos' exhaust gases meet, and just follow the wire forward about 30cm, and you will find the aforementioned plug. try it and see.
