After 3 years of trying different systems (FM modulator, cassette adapter), I finally found a solution for $100. I took out the head unit and took it to an electronics technician and got him to hard wire a connection into the TAPE circuit.
The iDeck now holds and charges the iPhone and I get an AUX input for the loss of TAPE input. Sounds great!

Hey Paul, where abouts in Vic did you take it? Could you send me his details, would be very interested in trying it out. Hows the sound quality compared to cd's?

i would guess he took the wires from the head and connected them to a jack,(mounted in a convenient spot to plug into) so that when selecting the tape, you are playing the ipod.

The sound quality is great, basically the same as having an AUX input on a modern head unit. Had the work done by Trevor Lees Audio 10 Cotham Rd Kew VIC 3101 Australia +61 3 9853 2522

Yep! Just got mine today. It sounds great. Only issue i have is that the tape seems to squeek while playing. I'm tempted to just adding a drop of oil to the wheels but will ask the manufacturer first unless someone else can help me out.
