Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me with a problem I'm having. For about three months now my 94 V8 Soarer has been struggling to start. It ticks each time but can take up to 10 goes to get it to fire. Some times it starts first go, whilst other times it can take ages. If you leave it for over 8 hours it doesn't start on the first go. Two weeks ago it didn't fire at all and my mechanic realised that the battery wasn't getting enough voltage to start. We replaced it with a brand new battery and this seemed to fix the problem, the car started perfectly each time. However, one week later the same problem started occurring?? I have turned off the boot light, turned off the interior lights and don't have an alarm or Imobiliser fitted ... So there must be something else draining the power from the battery???

is the batt draining or not charging?
check that the batt connections are clean and the batt neg to the chassis is clean.
measure the voltage with engine off then running to see what the alternator is putting out, or start the car , turn the headlights on and see if the brightness increases when you give the engine some revs.

Yeah we gave the connections a good clean when we changed the battery over. Just tried the revving with the lights on ... Didn't seem to make too much difference

I took it to an auto electrician and he said the starter motor is playing up ... Does that sound right? If that was the case why would the problem go away when we put the new battery in?

Alex ,disconnect pos terminal and put a multi meter from the pos cable to pos terminal and see what its drawing , it will have a high reading for 30 seconds as the cd powers up , after that you will get a reading , i have found pulling the radio fuse (memory)in the engine compartment always drops it down a lot ,its seems the older the radio gets it draws more! at least thats what i have found.
