today the car stalled and would not start. there was a jap error message (alternator not charging)
You also get the same message as soon as you turn the key to "on", and the car will not start. cranks ok.. I disconnected the battery to get an ecu reset and the car started.
next time a tried to start the car, the same error message and the car would not start. Reset the ecu again, and the car started.
anyone had this problem. I am thinking change the caps in the ecu.

after more thought, i think it may be the immobilizer acting up. (engine cuts out, error message saying no charge could be because a connection is "opened" by the immobilizer)
I have contacted the installers, Brant, and am waiting for a tech to call back with instructions on how to disable it.

If this has openly started as soon as the alarm was installed it could be the issue, but then again could also plain and simply be your alternator, my mate had a similar issue with his V8, like completely cut out and stopped. See how you go, if it's not the alarm it's definitely the alternator as it says.

james. alarm has been fitted since 2003.
If the battery is charged, and the alternator is faulty, the car "should" still start and run. That is "the strange fault" car will not start/stalls when battery is fully charged.

Might just be bad ECU caps then mate, try swapping your ecu over with someone else or borrowing theirs or something and try out that method. Just strange after all these years it start's acting up I'd think your ECU would act up before the immobilizer.

removed IG wires from immobilizer and shorted them together, started car , pulled them apart, car stalled but did not give the error message. could not find the fuel line wires to repeat this test. (is there a fuse for the fuel pump/fuel pump ecu?) Have purchased the 10 caps from jaycar to replace in the ecu, and see how that goes.

yes jol from earlier post,"If the battery is charged, and the alternator is faulty, the car "should" still start and run. That is "the strange fault" car will not start/stalls when battery is fully charged."
caps are being changed in ecu, and will be refitted later in the wk.

caps in ECU replaced and "strange fault" has disappeared.
now and again i get a miss, always after about 3kms travel, and the occassional stall. No error message . after a couple of cranks car restarts. I am going to do the FP B+ short and also have a new fuel filter to go in as the fault seems like a fuel fault.

today the car stalled every few hundred meters. The starter needed a few goes to get it to engage. (FP B+ fix did not work) Starter not engaging, no fuel ? causing stalling. common factor immobiliser. I have bypassed the 3 pts at the actual immobilser plug and gone for a drive. So far all good, so will suss out getting a new immobiliser in a few days if all is well.

I am new to the forum and Soarers. My car (a jap import)has a jap message that comes up on start up (Engine electrical Fault). On colder mornings it can take a minute or two to come up. I tried to use the diagnostics and the best I could get out of was "EFI N/G" followed by "EFI - -" . The characteristics are a rough idle and I think rough run at low throttle opening. Any ideas?

i think that either the wiring to the 02 sensor is faulty, or the 02 sensor itself, causing the error code. Would make it run rich at idle, hence the poor running. That's my guess.
