The error came up that the alternator was not charging the battery, now I have a completely flat battery (which is only a week old)and wondering if I need a new alternator It had been working fine till today, I had been looking at my slow windows problem and I'm wondering if I touched something that affected my alternator? Is there fuses I should be checking? I checked fuse 1 in the foot-well and it is ok I disconnected and reconnected the 2. X blue plugs in the drivers foot-well the go through the drivers door, wondering also if this did anything?

there is a voltage regulator in the alt and when it goes it can cause the problems your having. if your able pull the alt out and take it to an auto sparky to test if not take the car to one if its the reg i should come in fairly cheep if its something else you may be up for a new alt

shouldn't be to bad to replace the alt i would guess at about 1-2 hours as i can get mine out in about 30 mins. cost me $110 to get my reg replaced. pulling the alt out is something you can do yourself if you have a few basic tools and bit ok know how the hardest part is getting the acc belt off lol

Before you fix your alternator, fix your power steering pump. You may find that it is leaking into your alternator and that's what killed it. Common problem on the V8's

Going with a new alternator from Boris, getting a mechanic to install, should I get my belt changed as the same time? Mechanic told me I still have 50,000 left on the present belt, based on the fact its a Toyota belt and goes normally for 150,000 km's so is it worth it to get it done?
