I have a 1991 V8 and it has a factory touch screen in the center console.
It use to play up on really cold days but would show the screen when it was warm but now when i start the car the screen turns on but then goes to black.
I can still use it cause i remember where almost everything is. It still works when i touch it but its annoying that i cant see anything.

Can anyone help?

pages 8 and 9 will fix most problems. It is an easy fix for any competent tech. You can remove the emv and give it with the printout to anyone trained in PCB repair

THis is what happens so it turns on for a split second and fades like that til its black.

On rare occasions it will turn on normally and stay like it for a minute but then fades

hi jess,

not sure if that is an EMV backlight problem.

I would do the fixes on page 8 and 9 and see what happens. You carefully remove the 3 SMD caps with a small iron. It is easier to remove the leaded electros by cutting them off.

if you need to send it away, talk to these guys

Just tagging in. My 97 EMV has got the jitters. It flicks a bit every 7 seconds.

Likely to be the page 8/9 fix?

peter, i would do that fix if you have not had it done. there is a fault that occurs in the actual emv computer that causes the screen to lose the temp and radio display when in the "normal" switch on mode.

Everything works, it just flicks every 7 seconds. A bit like an old TV with dodgy vertical hold.

Would EMV diagnostics show up a fault?

Probably not, it looks more like a power supply issue, so dodgy caps would be the best bet.
