hi folks i have a 1991 sc400.Now about 8 weeks ago my car would not start after i finished work,it was fine when i drove to work.So i got the RAA and he thought i had either a seized starter motor or a seized engine!!! So i got a tow to my mechanic and he tried to manually crank the engine and it wouldnt budge he told me motor seized, i was gutted, got the car back home on a tow truck and left car in driveway.A couple of days later a friend from Soarer SA came and had a look but he was able to manually crank the motor easily.Everyone has told me that there was no way i had a seized motor( much to my relief) and that it was probably an electrical problem.Any way moving forward 5 weeks my car still is sitting in driveway,at about 1030 pm i hear the alarm on the car making farting noises, so went out and disconnected the battery that just made the alarm sound,so i turned off the alarm horn, reconnected the battery and not knowing what to do( as i'm not very mechanical) i left the car.Due to having an operation on my achilles tendon and not being able to move i havent been out to the car to at least try and turn it over until last week, now the car is deader than my grandma.Does any one here know what i can do to get the car up and running? It's killing me not being able to drive it.Any advice would be most welcome............mik

check the oil and see if it is ok. If it is milky you have a problem. also check the water level.

If you have a cracked head or head gasket and a cylinder fills with water it will not turn over.
The water could leak into the sump over time and let you turn the motor over, but the oil will be milky.
i assume the battery is now flat.
put a socket on the harmonic balancer(large pulley at the bottom of the engine) and see if you can turn the motor.

if it turns,Recharge the battery, and try to start the car. Then post what results you get.

Cheers for that Tom me and dave did all that checked the oil and it wasnt milky and water level fine.Dave did turn the motor and it turned fairly easily.I ve tried charging the battery but charger didnt give it enough juice( why i dont know!!!) dave did say that he said my battery wasnt large enough said i should have a minimum 750 amp due to all the électric accessories and mine is 600.Does this sound right?
Another soarer guy thinks its just a problem with some earth points, my next option is a mobile sparky to come and look at it

Mik, check the earth lead from the battery. It goes down to a point on the LH inner guard, and mine was loose, and caused similar problems to you. Need to get under the front near the front of the LH wheel to check it as well.

Very unlikely that its a dead 1uz mate. What about starter motor. What happens when your batt is charged and you tryto crank it?

cheers Ian will give that a go tomorrow morning.
Scott tried charging the battery overnight but my stepsons portable charger for some reason did'nt charge the battery or couldnt. The battery is only 5 months old. When this all first happened when i turned the key to try and start it it turned over but it sounded like a dead battery, all the lights on the dash came on and stereo etc, but sort of blinked off as i kept the key turned, but then came back on when key was in accessory position,if that makes sense? Now i suppose due to battery being flat there is nothing at all

You will have to get the battery charged somehow to check things.

As has been said try a good battery first, not sure why your Mechanic could not turn over the motor though & a mate then could ??

Water could hydraulic lock it as has been said but you say the oil looks good ( has the oil height increased ?? on the dipstick from when you last checked it, before the dramas ) & also you say it hasn't lost any coolant ..

600 cca is plenty for a 1uz. It'll be the starter motor solenoid, I'd put money on it. You'll need to get the starter motor out and get it to an auto electrician.

I had excess fuel cause hydraulic lock when the ECU capacitors failed and caused 2 injectors to stay open. If you get it to turn again, carefully sniff the exhaust for fuel.

But my thoughts are towards battery or connection failure.
