paul, just because you believe the KMs on your car are not original, does not mean the dash was changed under warranty. There is a long held belief that they are wound back before leaving japan. I am not disputing they are wound back, only that they would not have been replaced on a toyota recall under warranty.

daniel you tell me. i do not know. i have given an opinion on dashes being replaced under warranty ( i was in the electronics industry for 40 yrs and worked my last 9yrs for Philips SemiConductors & passive components in a tech capacity.)so think I am reasonably qualified to give an opinion.

I never said under warranty Tom, merely pointing out that the dashes were changed at much earlier times than you inferred, meaning that there would be a good possibility that quite a few may of been done as a recall, not too many owners would of been willing to pay that sort of money, allowing for inflation, etc, back in the 90's to have their dashes replaced.

Don't believe they were wound back either, most common fault is blinky dash, correct, why fix that and wind the speedo back. Doesn't make sense.

When I get more time ill do the digging. I read somewhere it was volentary not a recall as such. Also while digging read that Lexus was made in Japan till USA started making the sc400 in 94? And some bullitins are under sc400 regardless of market is this possiable? Because there's a couple of tsb for 91 didn't USA start with 92 models?

I don't like it when people have to bring up the claim that KM's have been rewound back or the car hasn't done that much KM when they hear of a low KM Soarer .... usually most people who say this own pieces of junk Soarers themselves and get jealous when they find people with good condition low KM Ones.

Well mine has 215,000 genuine kilometers. I remember when I was buying a car I counted how many times he said genuine kilometers. He said look at the gear knob look at the steering wheel. The car was pretty shagged mechanically other then the odometer, the gear knob and the steering wheel.

Tom, that's a backronym. The Lexus books tell the story of how the name came up and it never stood for that. |

steve you may be correct "The etymology of the Lexus name has been attributed to the combination of the words "luxury" and "elegance,"[21] and another theory claims it is an acronym for "luxury exports to the U.S."[21] According to Team One interviews, the brand name has no specific meaning and simply denotes a luxurious and technological image.[1" from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus

The Wikipedia article that links to Forbes doesn't really have a source for the Luxury Export to the US idea. It's just a "some say..." story. The article does quote Chester Dawson's excellent book "Lexus the relentless pursuit" which said the name morphed from Alexis because of connotations with Dynasty. This is a good summary. http://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2012/03/lexus.html As I say, I think it's a convenient backronym, which is made more credible by the naming of the individual models which do have meaning (e.g. LS = Luxury Sedan)
