The factory engine Ecu has issues with leaking capacitors . Easy fix with a couple of members offering a service to repair .
Otherwise the fuel pump Ecu fails also , but a google search for Supra or Soarer fuel pump 12v mod , or search on here offers an easy fix .
As far as auto controllers , there are not many options , power train solutions , offer a unit . But quite a few have ever perfected the setup . Otherwise Wolf make a plug n play Ecu for the Soarer which can control the auto . Or MV Autos offer a manual shift control box .

ECU's can fail in terms of leaking capacitors, but some of them fail in other ways too.
Fuel Pump ECU Fails too, most people don't look into repairing it but just bypasss it.
Autobox controller you can use Suprastick but it's not plug and play.
Daniel I never knew about the Wolf Plugins, just had a look at their website and that's excellent stuff also great how it can control Autobox, Now im wondering whether to get one of those instead of a Haltech PS1000
