I have been told by one supplier that he has mixed and matched rectifiers with regulators from different manufacturers and they have not opened the choke. What this means I am not sure except this supplier said he has a regulator but would not recommend that I use it with the other company.
The numbers for the parts are as follows: Regulator is the same for both the 31 and the 32 27700-46040. The rectifier is different. The 32 needs 27357-56070. I have bought a replacement for this with a number of 16-812 but need the reg at a reasonable price. I have contacted a supplier at Byron Bay who has a regulator for $20 but does not have the regulator to match. He says that he is pretty sure that his regulator will not open the choke on the rectifier that I have bought, as he has tried mixing and matching before and found that the alternator does not work.
Does anyone know what is really happening here? so that you can advise with authority? Thanks for any help.

I would be buying a complete Alternator. Ive brought a uzz that the last owner "fixed" the alternator and it had caught fire afterwards. Suits me I just wanted the shell. If you can't buy the right parts don't risk it.

The cover is an old 4 litre plastic square bottle like the ones some spring water come in, they were devised for the 30's and 31's not the 32's because the oil does not leak upward, so will serve no purpose.

Hey Tom, So you are saying that these covers are made from an old water bottle? Can't picture it as it has no attachment info or depth measurements. A little more info would help but you could post it somewhere else so this thread stays 32 specific. Let me know where you put it. How is the Lexus going, a bit jealous. The very latest has done something a little different with the front that makes it look much better than last years in my opinion. Cheers John

Just to set the record straight here, I have a post somewhere on here as I did finally source the right components for my alternator and it worked fine. Not sure if it was from Biron Bay or from Trump auto parts on ebay but it was all good when I did it.

This is copyright from another soarer forum in 2003 , the bottle was fix was on another old forum still looking for it , but yes it was cutting down an old square plastic bottle as a cover, worked well for leaks with the 30s and 31s.

by Mel Grebowski. The most common problem with alternators on the V8 Soarer ( Active suspension not applicable) is the power steering fluid leaking from the power steering pump on to the alternator which is located directly under. The fluid makes its way into the interior of the alternator and causes some sort of a short, blowing the alternator up."
