I've been unable to open my windows for two years now, mostly because 1) I can't find the fault and 2) because I've not had the time or inclination to delve much deeper.

I've checked the loom and only found one broken wire which made no difference.

I've now got the switch itself off and I'm wondering if anyone can advise me how to get into the switch?
As far as I can see, the circuit board should prise out but so far it's not budging.

I'm thinking that the window switch contacts might be dirty or (maybe more likely) that the window lock button may be faulty as it feels a bit 'iffy' in as much as it doesn't seem to operate as smoothly as I might have thought.

I believe the thickish light blue wire on the white electrical block that slides into the switch is the live for the windows (although please correct me if I'm wrong) and I've checked that there is power there.

The door lock does still work -as does the mirror, It's just the window switches (because the passenger side window doesn't work from either drivers or pax side either).

I'm open to any suggestions apart from taking it to an auto electrician (as funds are tight).

If I can't get into the switch to clean the contacts, does anyone have one of these switches I can buy?

Since my earlier post, I've now tried prising the switch buttons off and managed to get one off. I just could not get the Auto switch off even after drilling the 2mm holes as suggested elsewhere on Soarer Central.

I cleaned the inside of the switch (that I did manage to get open) using meths and cotton buds but it's made no difference.

If I have understood the directions (about removing the Auto button) correctly, it's a case of wrapping the grey rocker switch in tape to protect it and then pull the rocker switch upwards using large pliers. Maybe I've got that wrong because it sounds pretty brutal.

Have you tried running a wire from the battery (and one from earth - chassis) to bypass the switch to see if that makes a difference?

Hi Peter

I'll try that today to see if it works. Thanks.

OK I've semi- repaired my window. I actually discovered the lead to the window motor was slightly disconnected! How this happened is beyond me. It looked as though it was connected up but it was only when I grabbed both connectors and pushed them together that I heard a reassuring 'click'and my eyebrows went up.

I switched on the ignition and lo and behold I now have the drivers side working again. However the passenger side's still refusing to work.

I'm now thinking of taking the switch down to my local auto electrician to see if he can figure out if that part of the switch is fixable.

Wow...progress.

Here's the switch on the drivers door (for the passenger side window). I'd already cleaned the metal contacts inside the switch using meths and a cotton bud. To be honest it wasn't all that dirty anyway.

I've cleaned it again but still this switch doesn't seem to be working (or at least when I press it, the passenger side window doesn't slide up or down). The led is lit up so I know I've not isolated it by that stupid 'Window Lock' button.

Now, it's not easy photographing the interior of this switch but hopefully you guys can see what I'm about to refer to;

Looking at the metal 'contacts' within this switch, they easily come loose and rattle around within the switch. This means that they can reverse position within the switch. In this photo I think they are in different positions (North and South).

There are two separate 'contacts' which are concave in the middle but at the ends they have a slightly different shape. I can move them so both contacts are identical (North and South, so to speak) or they can be opposite to each other.

I've tried both without success. But as the auto electricians are all off tucking into their Turkeys and Christmas puds, I'm on my own so if I can, at least, get these contacts in the correct position, then I'll know I've done all I can.

So if anyone has opened their switches or know how these things are supposed to go I'd really appreciate some advice.

Thanks guys

Actually, having just re-looked at this photo, one of the contacts has already jumped out of it's position.

Do these contacts look clean enough?
