Gentlemen, I recently acquired a factory reverse camera spoiler + module that I've now installed onto my '31 which I was hoping to hook up to my headunit (non-EMV convert). However from some responses I have received elsewhere it's unlikely that it'll work between the two?
Which leads me to the question - where can I find a suitable aftermarket replacement camera to fit nicely into the OEM bezel? I've been searching & going through old threads but still haven't found what I'm looking for. I could of sworn I accidentally stumbled across a thread regarding this a while ago but no luck finding it again.
Mark Paddick mentioned this camera from brash imports:http://www.brashimports.com.au/Reversing%20Camera%20ccd.htm but I couldn't find the follow-up on it "This one may suit installation in places other than the spoiler a bit better. It will also look more like the factory one when installed in the spoiler (if it fits OK..will know soon)."
Anyone who has gone down this route of retaining the OEM location with an upgraded camera I'd love to hear from you.
Anyone else care to share a 'tried & tested' camera that is suitable for the OEM location? I'd rather not waste money on something that won't fit correctly. Any personal experience I'd appreciate to hear it.
That is true & it would be easier, however I just picked up this spoiler & have done away with my other for the purpose of having the camera. No big deal but I'll pursue to find a replacement that fits.
Is it utterly impossible to have the OEM camera work with an aftermarket headunuit?

Michael, I installed an eBay camera just above the number plate. I realise you are keen on the spoiler location, but thought I'd put the info out there for anyone else that is interested. See the attached picture - the threaded bolt fits in the central screw hole that holds the number plate lights in place (just need to drill out the plastic holder behind by a millimetre or two). Then with some hand contortions you secure it with the supplied nut. You barely notice its there and if you do, it's easily mistaken for a factory installed camera.
Daniel, not sure if you saw my FB post regarding where to trace the wires for the factory camera behind the headunit, I received a few responses doubting the compatibility between the two but failed to give a reason why. Giving me the impression I need an aftermarket camera.
If they do in fact work together as you said, by the sounds of it the wires needed come from various locations from behind the headunit not just altogether in the one loom. Suppose I'll have a search through some wiring diagrams.

can your head unit automatically switch to the reverse camera input when reverse is selected?
any ntsc camera will supply the correct video. the plug you wire directly into is above the lhs rear wheel arch. (white plug from memory)the trick is to get the head unit to select this input when reverse is selected.

As toms said the camera will go into the new headunit. You may need an adapter depending on head unit connection.
Cannot see you fb post
Due to josh Baldwin now being made admin Of facebook group Toyota soarer owners australia And anyone that stands up and not taking his crap Or selling parts cheaper gets adds deleted.
There is a new Australian page And there's a few techheads on there that have been in the soarer game than me and I'd say they would have a solution.
It's called. U.A.S.C The Ultimate Australian Soarer Community Pretty relaxed group and no bickering.

not knowing the details of your head unit, it is hard to offer advice. broadly speaking if it has only 1 video in that is for normal use, run that source thru a relay's normally closed (NC)contacts. run the reverse camera thru the normally open(NO)contacts. Use the 12v for the reverse lights to operate the relay.
If you look on ebay you will find a camera that you can adapt to fit the spoiler.

Tom, the head unit is relatively new (Kenwood double DIN) it has an input for a reverse camera & the single reverse wire to hook up. All is good on the boot-side of things, everything is connected ready to go.
All I need now is to trace where these wires come from behind the headunit. Currently on the search to find a wiring diagram which includes the reverse camera wires.

Pin 1 Camera power 12 volts (red wire with black stripe) Pin 2 Video Signal (NTSC) Pin 3 Supply ground (white wire with black stripe) Pin 4 Enable - connect to Pin 1 (purple wire with green stripe) Pin 5 Not used (can be used for night mode Leds) Pin 6 Video ground
So that leaves me with a solid green wire w/ pink dots (however it's in Pin 3 not 2 unlike above) I'll hopefully get around to this tonight or tomorrow & update back.
Yep, that's exactly what I was referring to. On the other hand Pin 2 is definitely white w/ black stripe. Aside from that, I've found the wire needed which runs to one of the old grey EMV connectors up front, will test tomorrow & post up the results.
Hopefully this thread will be useful to anyone else in the future.

an NTSC camera is required to work with an EMV. you are using an after market unit. check what input, NTSC or PAL your unit requires for the reverse camera.

After looking around for the video positive (white) & video negative (black) up front, they're no where to be seen. There is a couple white & black wires but are not for the camera.
Is it certain that these wires are the same colour up front as they are in the boot?

I was planning to resort to ripping everything apart & tracing these 2 wires from the boot to the front of the car when I got the chance. I'm going to pull the back seat out now & see if they detour along the way, curiosity has got the better of me.
The black/red, white/black, purple/green wiring are all apparent up front however.
