When i fitted the pump on the original wiring the pump will only run when engine is starting then stops. So i wired the pump off a ING feed to get it to run. Is this the way it should be done or do i have a fault in the wiring. This way i don't have a low fuel cut out?.

the standard wiring thru the ecu provides 12v at start up and high accelleration, but ~8v for normal running. Appears your pump will not run on 8v. Go to the diagnostics port and short B+ to FP and you will have 12v all the time to the fuel pump.

Sounds like your pump is obviously a high current draw pump & so will not run on the 8-9 volt range, so you could fit up a relay as has been mentioned or I would also look at fitting a different pump, I'm guessing you fitted a Walbro pump ?? I have found them to draw a load more amps than a equivalent bosch pump ..

All modern EFI cars with factory electrical systems have fuel pumps that shut off if the engine stops(Stalls/gets smashed etc) In my opinion, bridging the B+ and Fp simply sends 12 volts to the fuel pump all the time, instead of the normal 9 volts at idle. So in short, it bypasses the fuel pump control computer, not the fuel pump relay. Apparently some aftermarket pumps don't like the 9 volt/12 volt variable voltage thing.
