What does the ECT power/Normal switch do?
Hold the auto in gear longer? Drop the overdrive?

It changes the shift pattern. Normal changes sooner, designed to save fuel, whereas power changes higher in the rev range.

So no impact on the engine ECU at all?

The engine ECU controls the auto gearbox and its what will control the shift pattern / changing. The ECT normal / power button will feed back into the engine ECU.

the power button does not give the motor any power gains, via timing changes in the ECU, if that is what you are wondering, Jan.

So completely irrelevant when converting to a manual gearbox.

Yep except that you will get ECT errors on the dash (if you have a scroll dash) unless you change the ECU to a manual ECU..

Manual gearbox with auto ECU is possible, will work with errors and i believe there are ways to trick the ECU into thinking the auto is still there.

Manual gearbox is best with manual ECU if its a TT.. not available on the UZZ range.

With a 1uz manual conversion there is no manual ecu. I believe the work around is to make the ecu think it's in neutral.
