Hi Guys,

I have a problem with my electric windows, and the whole Door button panel (mirror controls + lock/unlock button). The problem is with both passenger and driver side windows, and also the control panels in both doors do not work. I have found that the interior light doesn't come on when set to the 'door' setting when the door is opened, and also the 'ding ding ding' warning chime that comes on when the key is in the ignition and the door opens is not coming on either. The sunroof works fine.

Now generally it doesn't matter if the key is in, on accessory, or it is started, or if the door is open or closed, the same problem persists. However this just happened today, and while fidding with it everything suddenly did start to work for a little bit again for about 1 minute, then stopped working again. I noticed the interior light came on for a half second on several consecutive opens of the door, but then went out again. It's stopped working again now. The windows didn't work still. Come to think of it now, the warning chime that comes on when the door is opened with the keys left in the ignition has sometimes suddenly stopped while opening the door 1-2 times over the past couple of weeks.

I have checked all the fuses with a multimeter and they're all fine, and changed over the relay above the fuse box with the one in the engine bay but still no go.

I'm guessing it could be a loose wire or something because it started working again, plus with the interior light just coming on momentarily a few times.

I haven't really done much auto-electrics before, just wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction of what to check and where the problem may lie?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Louis.

I also noticed that the red picture of the door open sign flickers on and off sometimes when the door is open.

Could be a bad earth or no power running through your door loom, the wires feeding through the rubber tubing from the body loom to the door switches sometimes fray and break over time.

Get a multimeter out and see if you check for continuity between the blue plug down in the drivers footwell (door -> body) and the actual door switch (blue) plug. I'm not sure which wire goes where but you should be able to trace the colour from the door switch to the body plug and check it.

I can't work out the part number from the on-line catalog that will give me the wires that run through the door? Can anyone help me out?

I've looked through electrical > Miscellaneous Wires, Cables, & Harnesses and also body & interior > Door Hinges & Window Running Gear

I've managed to work out it's definitely the wires running to the door. If now depending on the position of the door depends if the controls in the door work.

The wires are most likely frayed, it would be easier to repair them or find a good second hand door loom, i don't think you'll be able to order one from Toyota being most are now 20yrs old.

There would be some for sale around Melbourne and i think Dean Rayner in Heidelberg might have even had some for free. I do have a v8 door loom that I've just removed however i'm taking the seat wiring from it. What model soarer / options do you have ? put up a pic of the door / switches and it will make it easier to figure out.

I have a 94 V8 Soarer, UZZ31. I'm happy to buy a loom if it's working well. Have you got any numbers I could call to get one sent down to Geelong?

It would just be a matter of unplugging the old and plugging a new one in wouldn't it? No soldering or anything?

Here are some pictures

It would probably be easier to just remove your door loom and solder in some joining wire with heat shrink over it.. i won't have a full door loom..

You could try these guys for a full door loom to suit a UZZ31 try Dean Rayner on 0400005596 or Daniel from Import Nation on 0423296014. If you can get hold of one it would be pretty straight forward to remove the old one and fit a replacement one.

If you need to i'm more than happy to help out if you get stuck installing it.. you'd have to come here though, i'm SW of Ballarat.

Ok thanks for the numbers, I will give them a call. I've tried going through the wires with a multimeter but there are just so many of them and the colours don't always match up, it didn't seem simple.

Apart from that sometimes the windows work and sometimes they don't, so it would be even more troublesome to locate the wire with this intermittent problem. I'd rather do a little overtime and just get the whole loom if i can.

Thanks Justin, if i get stuck i'll send you a message.

pull the rubber boot back and look for broken wires, then repair them with an extra bit of wire and heat shrink. The broken ones are easy to find if you spread out the wires under the boot.

Found broken wire & soldered in another wire. Working fine.

Thank-you all very much for your help.
