Hi, I bought a 1991 TT Soarer 2 months ago. It has one big turbo instead of twin. Quite a few mods etc. One mod is an aftermarket fuel tank ( pro-flow ) in the boot. Two weeks ago the car started lagging/hesitating off the lights. When the revs eventually picked up, it took off like normal. But will not drive properly before turbo kicks in. One auto electrician tested the power to the fuel pump and found it getting 9.5 volts. He said it should run at 12 to 13 volts and recommended getting the fuel module bypassed. He didn't want to fix it though.Called a few auto electricians and they seem like they don't want anything to do with it. As a newbie, i would really appreciate any advice like where to take it (Gold Coast), and what the problem may be? The car has potential! Thankyou in advance..

factory fuel pump controller sends 9 volts at idle, 12-13 volts when accelerator is pressed. Why does it have an aftermarket fuel tank? How many litres is it? Does the car have an aftermarket computer? You can bridge two pins in the diagnostics port under the bonnet to run the fuel pump at full volts all the time. That will allow you to test if the fuel pump controller is indeed the problem.(search this forum for details)

Hi Blake, The previous owner put in an aftermarket fuel tank because the old one was all rusted inside ( so he said ) The tank is 30 Litres. I think it has original computer. I will try bridging those two pins as described. Thank you for your reply.

Hi Mark, Sounds like the Man. I'll try bridging it, then if no change I'll take it to Graham at Southport. Will be an interesting drive from Elanora! Thanks for advice.

Hello again, So as a newbie, the "diagnostic port" under the bonnet is the "fuse box" ? Couldn't find anything else similar. Also no Fp and B+ ports labeled. I have taken photos and will put on here as soon as i can. ( work in retail so it's a crazy time for me right now ) Regards and Merry Christmas!

Jason, this article has a pic of the diagnostic port. Don't leave the jumper in permanently as it means your pump won't stop in the event of an accident.

Peter, Thanks for link to pic. I have the "Fuse Box", but haven't found anything that looks like that. Vehicle is covered up, will search again when I get a day off.I realise this is a temporary "fix". Just might put me in the right direction. Regards

ok, So bridged Fp and B+ in the diagnostics box with paper clip. Took it for a couple of laps around the block. Went fine fist lap ( thought it was "fixed" ) Then it started to lag and backfire. Maybe fuel pump is stuffed or it is something completely different. It would get me to work, but not running as it should. Anything come to mind?

Hi, Have exhausted all options that have been mentioned ( except taking it to Graham at Southport ) So the soarer will have to wait till next year. Very regretful that i bought this vehicle to be honest. But, will keep some hope for next year. Merry christmas to all!

Hi, Took my soarer to Graham at ToyoTechniks in February. The car had to be towed there. He went right through it and found the fuel pump in the Pro-flow tank was stuffed. Also it wasn't installed properly in the first place. So stoked he found the problem! Car back on the road and enjoying driving again. Thanks Graham !
