I am presently making one good car out of 2 x 1992 Limited cars. One has an emv that was not working so I supposed that I could just take the good one and put it in the to good car, but no such thing was going to happen as when I got to the fit up I found that the plugs were different and that the loom from one did not match the other. The radio cassette had the same numbers on it but the main body of emv had different secondary numbers.
I was not aware that they were different untill the post 1995 cars??

Can you take a picture of the different plugs and part numbers?
They should be the same up to the mid 90s change over, but you can't mix and match computers on the back or things stop working properly, despite the same plugs.

I thought that they were both 1992 cars but when I looked at the ID plates I see that I have a '91 that works and a '92 that does not work.
I don't know what is wrong with the emv in the '92 car but it has some funny marks/lines on the glass of the screen like something burnt them in with halos around them?? There is also a white with red trace wire pulled out of one of the connections in the back of the top air con/heater control buttons. Any more I do not know, so thought to save money on fixing the emv in the 1992 car, that I am doing up, I would just use the good unit out the 1991 donor car.
Is there any way I can still go ahead and use the good '91 emv in the '92 car?
The good emv is out of the '91 car vin # 6U900UZZ310006217 Multi display # 86112-24080 462100-0073 Main display # 86111-24050 462200-052 There seems to be 2 main differences in the wiring. The loom of the '91 has 3 plugs going into the multi display part whereas the 92 car has only 2.
The other difference is the white connector at the base of the unit has only 5 places for spades, whereas the '92 car has a plug from the car to the unit that requires 6 places, even though it only has 5 spades in it.

I understand the computer number is the Multi display number as far as I understand. The one with the 2 plugs is the 1992 and it ends in 72 instead of 73 for the '91 car.

I found that the EMV in the '92 car had been modified. There was some kind of TV adapter under the dash that had been disconnected and it had the other missing 3rd plug as part of it. Too hard to explain the connection configuration but the harness on the EMV had been modified. I have set that whole EMV aside as needing a separate dealing with, maybe someone wants to make me an offer for spare parts??
My purpose is to have a working EMV in the '92 car that I am doing up, so, I cut the standard white plug off the '91 car, the car that I have taken the good EMV from, and soldered it into the '92 car. Great, But, once I had the unit in the '92 car and had it all lit up and working I found that only the right-hand end of the screen was touch sensitive. The unit works but I can't change anything via the touchscreen.
That means I can't choose low fan on the air con and can't change the configuration on the music set up, and can't read other functions other than the moment by moment fuel usage graph, as other functions require the touchscreen to be functional
Ok, could this be that some internal battery (capacitor) in the EMV has had its power drained off and so is too flat to work due to it not having any power to it for months (that donor car hasn't had a battery for over 6 mths now)? I am not an electrician and am only guessing.
If I was to connect the car battery and put the '92 car on slow recharge for a few days would the EMV's internal battery come good again? (the main car battery of the '92, which I am doing up, is disconnected at the moment so that the car battery doesn't drain off and go flat while I am working on other aspects of the car).
Or, more likely, is it some component in the EMV that has failed. If so, can I easily repair it? Let the gurus speak
