I just wanted to put it out there, that I’m thinking of getting my ecu for uz31 capacitors replaced. No issues but more preventative. Does anyone know how much this costs. My mechanic told me once before it would be sent off somewhere and cost about. 800. Which I think is a rip off. Does anyone know people on Twitter he Gold Coast that can be trusted and reasonably priced?

I do these for most people between Australia and New Zealand with good results. Flatrate on V8 ECUs is $275 plus post $35 AUD.
Usuall 2-4 working days turn around time required once received to go through it accordingly, and test it to make sure all is well before sending back.
$800 is ridiculous, but as I repair all Soarer things electronics wise, I've heard of some real shocking stories, once $2000 for an emv back light repair by using an old portable TV backlight hot glued in place! The rest of the unit didn't have any repairs they typically need made. There are some really dishonest 'repairers' out there unfortunately.

Hi mike , thanks for info sounds good. When I take holidays next I would be a good time for me to it then. Where abouts are you located? Also don’t have Facebook account for numerous reasons. Do u have any email address I use to contact you?

Hi Mark, I just had my engine ECU recapped by Roy at Forster Electronics, he replaced 9 capacitors and only charged me $88.00, it certainly made a difference to the car, the only thing is he can't give a guarantee, because he has no way of testing the ECU, prior to returning it to the owner

You shouldn't need a Guarantee really, if it plays up then you have other options, but at that price its fine, only 30min to max 2 hours work anyhow, if its totally messed up with leaky ones than i am sure they would have let you know.

Sometimes a quick and easy cap replacement works, but usually the damage goes a lot further and leakage affects other components / tracks and other issues arrise
That means the time require to work on them goes up considerably and running the ecu in a good car to confirm the repair was successful is needed.
1UZ soarer ecus can be extremely finicky the longer the are neglected.

I have to agree with Mike. I've done many 1UZ recaps & I've never done one in 30 mins.100% will have leaking capacitors requiring board cleaning & 90% will need track repairs due to the leaks. Lately the damage can be that advanced that it requires the removal of other components & even ICs to rectify. They even have to be desoldered carefully to avoid further board damage. 3hrs would be the minimum time I would spend on a single board, from start to test. Some take 4 or 5hrs. I've done a lot of these, as Mike has, & I cant see how they can be done any quicker & still produce a reliable, fault free repair.

Wayne, there's 10 capacitors in the S1 1UZ no.29 ecu to replace, likely he's missed the 47uf near the terminals, under the case. It's also known to leak. Unless it is the S2 no.33 ecu which has 8 caps. Cheers.

I did say 30 min to 2 hours, I have been working in repair and design and production of electronic everything for over 40 years, 2 hours is the most I have spent on a really messed up one with track repairs, most of the ones I have done have had only 1 to 3 caps leaking and not to a stage of any track or PCB damage at all, even looking under a microscope and doing track resistance readings. Hence 30 min is the normal for those.

Good to see Roland, post your details up so that I & other V8 owners can send our ecus to you for repair. At 2hrs max labour charge it's a bargain. I'd assume that comes with a guarantee of repair & ongoing performance. I've a couple ecus here waiting..

Thanks Tim. I think, the ECU is fairly easy to remove, I will check the type of ECU that I have and if need be I will get Roy to replace the 10th capacitor
