My V8 used to flash some warnings when accelerating hard and/or braking. First it was caused by the alternator windings coming loose (long story) second was caused by low break fluid (that was much cheaper to fix!) Hopefully its just the break fluid for you!
I used to keep a printout of all the Japanese warnings in the glove box. You can find a link to them somewhere on planetsoarer.com (sorry, too lazy to find them for ya!)
ECT is Electronicly Controlled Transmission I think...

So no one else has any ideas? has this happened to other people i filled up the brake fluid a little today it was a bit lower i think cos when the pads wear the pistons move futrher out and uses more fluid so see hoe that goes. diagnostics showed up as gearbox solenoid but seems to shift great??? i reset my ecu a while ago stopped for a bit but come back again lol.

Might have a sticky solenoid then!! What colour is your tranny fluid. As in, nice and red or brown and awful. If it's brown, you need to either get it serviced or flush it out yourself. Your brake fluid reservoir should be a little overfull. Usually fixes that low brake fluid problem.

Craig i have the exact same thing happining to my car at the moment, accually its been like that ever since i brought the car. You would also notice that when the ECT light comes on and the O/D light starts flashing turn the O/D off and the red warning ECT LIGHT goes away?!! I know this only happends every now and then, thats why i drive with the O/D OFF so the ECT warning light wont come on. I done a diagnostic check on it and got error code 67 ( 6 O/D flashes followed by 7 flashes)which indicates that it is the O/D direct clutch speed sensor. Its a solinoid on the side of the tranny. I took my car to sports and luxury cars and they said its a easy fix. So take your car to well known soarer mechanic they should sort it out for you.

I'm getting the same problem...O/D light flashing then ECT flashes red, so I basically turn off the O/D so that the ECT will stop flashing, only happens sometimes.
Another problem that I might think may be related is that when I try to hard-accelerate with foot to the floor, i.e. overtake, it would linger around the 2 grand mark and just won't go. It would accelerate at a rate of 1-2km/h every second. It doesn't seem to downshift...just got it serviced and mechanic reckons it might be my cats, so got them replaced last Saturday with metallic high-flow cats (left cat was completely gone). Seemed alright for the whole day (feels like I gained some power too), but next day, problems were still there. Is there a link to the ECT flashing red and this problem?
Any ideas? Will be taking it back to the mechanic in a couple days to get it checked out, just want to know if anyone has the same problem and a solution to it...

Bump on this. I have just had this pop up, although from the look of things it would be the long distance on worn pads, as I have just finished a 5 hour cruise.
Check the error codes, that will indicate possible causes.
It is most likely a bad Gearbox solenoid, in some cases it's just lost it's earth. The fix for mine was to sand a bit of coating off the plate that is used to mount the solenoid and that fixed it.
Otherwise it can be a severed wiring harness, loose plugs somewhere etc.

I think it was the brakes thing, because I was doing some heavy braking in the Hills that night on pad that need replacing...Yes I know that sounds like a stupid thing to be doing.
I will check the diagnostics when I have a chance.
